COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpu’s corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a really dark brown head. The aroma is of vanilla, fudge, chocolate, cocoa, gingerbread, coffee, roasted malt, dark fruits, molasses and lots of nice deserty aromas. Flavors is as amazing as the aroma, it really reminds me of gingerbread, with honey and ginger and cinnamon spice notes, vanilla, dark and sweet chocolate notes, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, fudge, dark fruits and molasses, with a hint of the chili that evolves the more you sip in it. The body is full with a nice sticky and creamy mouth feel. Overall an amazing and different Imperial Stout, I really want to try this BA!

a - pours thick opaque cola with almost no head (too cold). No lacing. S - strong notes of toasted malts up front. This is taken over by rich dark and milk chocolate, notes of cinnamon, chili powder, cacao, vanilla, baked crust, pungent raisins. Charred oak, leather, and vegetal malts. M - dry Chalky texture. Strong body, with a full palate. T - taste follows the nose. Toasted malts and charred oak up front. Mince meat pie, raisinettes, raw cacao, toffee, peanut brittle?, and dark chocolate on the palate. Lingering bitter dried grasses, chalk, and burnt caramel end. Pepper gets much stronger as it warms. O - nice, but drier, more bitter than I'd hoped. Too burnt. Darkness and dark lord were much better. 4.1

750ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, some light peppers, and a light bitterness. Flavor the same, with a smooth malt character and the added ingredients all blending well. Thick texture. One of the best beers I’ve had.

Bottle at Endo’s house, 25/05/13, thanks to Jason for securing this from the source. Mid black with a big billowing dirty tan head - this looks the bollocks! Nose is dark malt, chocolate, leather, demerara sugars, vanilla, pinch of spice. Taste comprises chocolate, dark malt, vanilla, spice, hint of chilli pepper, sugars. Full body, slightly viscous, smooth on the palate. Great stuff, ticks all the impy boxes, alcohol kept in check and not overly sweet.

bottle share at hill farmstead’s pre-3rd anniversary. pours pitch black with a minimal beige head, some lacing. roasted malts, burnt chocolate, dark cocoa, blend of spices - cinnamon, cardamom and chiles come through, tingling spices, earthiness and tobacco. boozy and cloying burnt molasses. soft carbonation, full body - very syrupy, bitter coffee and smoky but cloying finish. a sipper but i enjoyed it. not only original but components blend well together.

Bottle. Huge thanks to mikem409 for this one. Pours a super silky black with a small, very attractive dark brown head. Aroma is chocolate up front, coffee, chilies, a little cinnamon. Taste is medium-heavy sweet, mild bitter; lots of cinnamon coming through, chocolate, and some nice flavors from the chilies as well. Finish is sweet, roasty with a slight bitterness, and a small burn from the chilies. Full bodied, insanely smooth, soft carbonation. This is excellent stuff, and possibly my favorite imperial stout to date. I’m really glad to have tried a relatively fresh bottle. Thanks Mike!
