4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from South Bay. Let this one warm up. Poured jet black with an impressive thick, creamy tan head. Sticky lacing. Heavy chocolate and roasted malt nose. Smoke, leather, oak, some bourbon, and oats as well. Velvety smooth mouthfeel with light carbonation. Love how it coats your mouth. Bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt hits you first. More sweet than bitter, but held in check. Rich coffee flavor (without the acidity), anise, caramel, and creamy milk-chocolate flavors come through. Hints of bourbon and an earthy smokiness pop occasionally. No soy sauce or wooden flavors, just a thick, lovely stout. The alcohol is well masked, but gives a pleasant warmth. Please brew more of this.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
An almost sour note in the nose initially, a hint of coconut and almond. A hint of roast. Opaque with a red tinted light brown head. A touch of tanginess mixing with a roast note, with alcohol gently peeking through. A note of bitterness offsets the sweet flavor of residual malt sweetness. Finishes fairly clean considering the bold flavors.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with a big brown head. Aroma of roast, cherry, chocolate, vanilla, and whiskey barrel. Taste is rich, sweet, and roasty with a nice bit of the barrel. Booze taste is minimal. Full bodied, but relatively not that thick, smooth, slightly tingly. Average for a good imperial stout; Quite good but not ultimately a standout for the style.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
This one is too sweet for me. Tap @ Pour. Deep brown with mocha head. Smells like molasses & perfume. Very sweet, almost cloying.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, from Systembolaget. Black, rich beige head. Licorice, coffee and vanilla up front. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Elegant, somewhat spritzy with peppery vanilla and coffee flavour, backed by caramel and licorice. Mildly warming finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle. Pours a nearly pitch black color with a large light brown head. A big ash, smoke, woody nose. The flavor is awesome: intense dark malty base, roast, cherries, dark fruit, vanilla and whiskey. Really intense, licorice and smoke. Metallic at times. Lovely big stout.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared with koleminer20. 2013 vintage. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, licorice, chocolate, malty, a little fruit. Appearance is black, brown head. Taste is bitter, dark chocolate, malt, metallic. Mouthfeel is ok, decent carbonation, oily but not so heavy. Overall...it’s not as impressive as expected.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL corked and caged bottle. 2013 vintage. Shared with ebone1988. The pour is a good medium black color with a large khaki colored head and lots of soapy lace clinging to the glass. The aroma is beautiful. There is a nice vanilla character that meets the nose. There is a strong oak to accompany a light licorice and some great roast. Dark fruit starts to come through on the back end. The flavor is a lot of roasted malt, some medium dark chocolate and then it turns a bit metallic on the finish. The mouth feel is good and creamy, but not as thick as I was expecting. The aftertaste is lingeringly roasty and chocolatey. Could be so much better.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
2013 bottle, drank March of 2015.
Given that 40% was aged in bourbon barrels for a year and the rest is a year old at least it was quite bitter. Mostly whiskey and dark chocolate on the nose. The taste is mostly bourbon but it’s quite abrasive. Overall not the best bourbon barrel stout I’ve had but not terrible. Maybe letting it age and sweeten up a bit would improve it

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: 2013 - very dense deep brown to black. Light head and lace. Very inky dense roasted nose. Coffee, smokey, dark chocolate but with a high tone edge. Hint of florals and maybe some VA. Dry to off dry palate with maybe a slightly fresh or sour edge and low bitterness. The Flavors a re great. Very rich, saturated, creamy palate. Long and balanced. Dark chocolate, dried fruit, ink, wonderful palate.
Very complexed beer. Saturated and almost funky.
