COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re rolling out a new Imperial series with the first beer scheduled to release January ’09. These larger-than-life beers will be sold in 22 oz bottles and on draft. Brewed with more malts and more hops, these beers are big, bold, flavorful, and high-octane. The first in the series is a Russian Imperial Stout. The style was first brewed in England for the Russian Czar and it is the king of stouts. Plenty of big malt flavors- chocolate and roasted- and high alcohol with lower carbonation and mild hops. We brewed this beer with double the malts and four times the hops of regular stouts! Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout clocks in around 10% ABV- a beer to be savored responsibly. True to style, this beer will last for years so you may want to stock up on a few bottles for your cellar while it’s available.

Pour out of bottle, thanks Doodler, dark black pour with thin off white head, aroma has notes of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, hints of caramel and dark fruit notes. Taste was nice dark fruit, chocolate, biscuit, hints of caramel, slight biscuit, finishing fairly bitter. Nicely done.

Bottle @ Armin’s house, courtesy of doodler. Thanks so much, Scott! Deep black appearance with a small, dark brown head. Super roasty, anise, dark chocolate, light vanilla, black licorice aroma. Rich dark chocolate, vanilla bean, big anise, oaky flavor with a bit of a bitter finish. Quite tasty brew.

This RIS like many others (ok 99.9%) pours pitch black. Nice frothy tan head and great retention. Faint aroma of burnt coffee, molasses, and sweet dark chocolate. If this was brought up a notch I would of been in love. The same goes for the taste. Good but faint. What I did notice more then the other ingredients was the molasses. Brought a nice sweet taste to the brew. Espresso and chocolate bring up the rear. The mouthfeel was slick and smooth. A little bit on the heavy side. Little carbonation.

Pours pitch black with a quick fizzling mocha brown head. Smells like chocolate and roasted malts with hints of alcohol on the nose. Taste is strongly of chocolate with a roasted backbone; almost no alcohol on the taste at all. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and very soft mouth-carbonation, Otter Creek Russian Imperial Stout finishes with a nice roasted bitterness.

I will permit others to describe this exquisite brew because I write to brag. When my local beer shop put this on sale for $3, I bought one. Otter Creek is pretty solid, right. Imperial Stout i my favorite style. Brought it to a party and split it with Shawn and Billy- two suds lovers. I was instructed to return to the store and buy them out. We split them 1/3 each. Nirvana.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. The head sticks around a while, and there’s a decent amount of lacing left on the glass. The brew smells like chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, roasted malt, coffee and molasses. It’s a very sweet aroma. It tastes like bittersweet chocolate, roasted and burnt/charred malt, coffee, and some molasses. There’s a long lasting roasty bittersweet finish, and overall the bitter flavors are pretty well balanced with the sweet ones. Mouthfeel/body is medium (seems a bit thin for the style), it’s oily and has good carbonation. It’s also smooth and easy to drink. I think this is a good brew, and not a bad choice for $6.99 a bomber.
