COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Odins Tipple was meant to be a strong beer, but we changed our minds...its still strong but we wont follow the mega strong trend. It should be possible to make great beer without the extreme alcohol potency. Odins Tipple is now approx 11% abv, it’s a dark almost black beer from lots and lots of chocolate malt. Its the malt that contributes the flavor...no added coffee or anything else, Its got a great body without being old engine oil and still very drinkable due to the wild yeast we use. This beer is made with a single strain of wild yeast and the recipe is dead simple.

Ooh! Almost NO head on this baby. Color is just about black. This is well roasted chocolate malts and very little else. Very robust, but little complexity.

Bottle @ home from Vinmonopolet Drammen. Batch 376. Pours clear, oily and almost black. one finger dark brown fizzy head escapes fast and leave some oily lacing. Aroma of chocolate and cognac. Medium body with a bitter chocolate taste and some alcohol notes. Nice old ale.

Bottle at Camp Beer IX. Pours a motor oil with virtually no head. The aroma is roast, smoke, and oak. Medium mouthfeel with smoke and roast with a sweet finish. A good imperial stout from Haand.

I brought this one to Ffej of July IX A - Pours pitch black with a thick two finger tall khaki colored head leaving spotty lacing down the glass. S - Smells of rich coffee, dark roasted malt, bakers chocolate, light vanilla, and some dry oak. Only the faintest hint of booze. T - Starts off with plenty of dark roasted malts quickly giving way to a mix of rich coffee, sweet bakers chocolate, and some lightly charred drying wood tannins. The booze is hidden very well, offering only a glimpse toward the end of each sip. The finish is a mix of dark roast and a some sweetness, lingering for some time. M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth feel with plenty of roast in the finish. The alcohol is hidden very well. O - Overall I really enjoyed this one. It was the perfect beer to have in-between all the sours we were drinking. It had plenty of rich flavors going on but it never got to the point of being overpowering.

Growler. Black, dark brown head that soon retreats to the rim. Aroma of coffee, blackcurrants, treacle, chocolate, soy sauce. Syrupy with low carbonation. Very sweet with treacle and chocolate, dark berries with some sourness, some coffee astringency, soy sauce. Peppery bitterness at the end. Alcohol is quite prominent. Under the sweetness the berries are interesting, but there’s a lot of sweet booze to wade through. Probably like this better in a bottle after a couple of years.

At just on cool and into a snifter. The appearance of motor oil from an ol’ wreck is the look from the pour; oily, viscous, opaque and jet black in appearance with no head bar a brown scum on the meniscus. So smoky and layered in gooey toffee, rich chocolate, Kopiko candy, salted fish?, leather, marzipan and roasted coffee beans is the strong and vibrant waft from the glass, sultry. Just contorts the mouth into spasms when it hits, this is pretty much engine oil and that Odin, well, he must have been a hard f%^ker. Body is thick, viscous and the alcohol is as shy as a Bangkok ping-pong lady, really warms and burns on the way down in such a good way (not the ping pong lady, the alcohol!). Milk chocolate, rich, syrupy vanilla mud-cake, smoked fish like the nose and fresh strapped leather, really piercing amount of almond liqueur, this stuff just sticks around like glue. Like velvet in feel as it slips on passed the tonsils, smoke trails emitted all the way. There is lashings of treacle and Worcestershire sauce, maybe that’s the smoked fish!, and bitter, burnt coffee beans late. I just loved this stuff. Boozy, slow drinker. Not overly complex, but an honest groundbreaker of a beer. Absolutely lovely!!! (50cL, batch 349, brewed 15/03/11, Mane Liquor, Belmont)

Nose has coffee, molasses, with a hint of smoke. Colour is jet black. Nice dense head is a rich brown. Taste is huge. Rich malt sweetness touched with alcohol warmth and sharpness. Flavour holds beautifully in the finish and slowly fades away. As a lover of dark malts, this will become a favorite!

Bottle, proefzolder Alvinne. Pours dark, almost black. Head is very dark brown, and doesn’t last very long. Drank it a bit too cold, nose aroma’s faint coffee. Very standard stout aroma, good roastiness, very good palate, medium to low carbonation. Slick. Finish has some coffee sourness. Good brew.
