Maple bourbon roast aroma. Vivid. Exactly how you want an imperial stout to look. Black and dark beige head. Lacing like a boss. Taste is just wow wow wow. Chocolate bourbon candy with some barrel beginning to show through. This is heavenly. No booze, but I wish I drank it fresher.

Loads of bourbon, maple, oak and dark chocolate up front. Smooth coffee throughout. Notes of vanilla, toffee, espresso and cream. Lives up to the hype, and then some!

On tap at the Founders tap takeover at Coopers in Madison. Poured thinner than I thought it would. Dark body with a creamy head. Sweet caramel aroma. Not much coffee smell. Sticky sweet taste. Lots of maple. Very smooth. Never really had a beer like this. Some chocolate and coffee tastes. Very delicious!!!!

On tap - review from memory of earlier this afternoon. Taste is maple syrup, rich chocolate, some alcohol in the background. Love the maple and chocolate, very nicely balanced flavor. Very smooth, full bodied. Starts a bit sweet, but dryness takes over quickly. Finishes extremely dry. (Seriously. Maybe it was just me, but I walked away from that pour with full-blown cotton mouth. I’ve never experienced anything like that before with beer.)

Bottle. Pours an oily black, small tan head. Aromas loaded with chocolate and maple sweetness. Roasted coffee, vanilla and a slight char. Make an appearance. Taste is very rich chocolate...creamy milk chocolate, dark chocolate and bitter bakers chocolates...lots of depth. The coffee interplays nicely and keeps this from getting too sweet. Nice touches of oak, vanilla and maple push forward. Some roast, char, marshmallow, anise and alcohol step up towards the finish. A nice, sweet maple booze pushes this a long, chocolately finish. Very smooth, very rich.

Thanks to Poole. This has a rich chocolate and wood aroma. Lots of sweet. Maple faded but compliments chocolate nicely.

Bottle opened in Nov. 2014. Pours oily black with quarter inch of head. Aroma is dark chocolate, raisin. Taste has those elements along with a strong anise flavor that was surprising. Very sweet (not sure how it tasted initially upon bottling) and the syrup adds a unique element. Creamy chocolate is there but I didn’t pick up much of the coffee. Glad to finally add this to my list.

Bottle shared by me - thanks! Dark black pour. Big coffee and chocolate nose. Big coffee taste, maple and bourbon come in strong with some hop and roasted malt bitterness finish. A touch of sweetness at the start. Very very good.

Amazing. Touch of maple with lots of roast and dark chocolate. Pours black with great head and lacing. Awesome balance, slightly creamy and thick consistency. Medium bitter finish with some light sweetness from chocolate and maple. Bourbon blends well. Only had a taste of this at Churchkey’s 5th anniversary thanks to Lea for a taste of this.

Transfer from BA review on 5-9-14 Poured from bottle into a snifter glass Appearance – The beer pours a thick and viscous black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is of a huge and delicious coffee and roasted malt smell mixed with a strong showing of chocolate. Along with these big and robust darker aromas are strong notes of maple syrup as well as sweet darker fruit smells of raisin, fig, and plum. A decent amount of a bourbon and vanilla are there as well and seem to add a nice dimension of warmth to the aroma inviting one to come and sip the fine roasted nectar that awaits the tongue. Taste – The taste begins with a sweet chocolate and roasted malt flavor with the sweetness being a fine balance of maple syrup, vanilla, caramel and the darker fruits that were detected in the nose. While quite dark and roasty upfront, it gains even more robustness in the roast being accompanied by some smooth espresso flavors matched by a faint smokiness. The sweeter flavors all the while stay strong, wonderfully balancing out the big tastes of the brew. Around the middle of flavor profile comes some bourbon tastes mixed with a bit of a woodsy flavor. These flavors, like their counterpart aromas did, bring a warming taste to the brew, bringing on just the right level of “heat”. Right at the very end, after the warm has hit the tongue, a slight surge in the maple syrup flavor is delivered, culminating the taste and leaving a wonderfully smooth and warmingly sweet and roasted, but balanced flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is huge and thick with a lighter but creamy level of carbonation. The combo of thick body and subdued carbonation is magnificent for the big and bold blend of flavors in this dark roasty brew and truly create a fantastic medium for all the flavors of the brew a to bath the tongue in all the richness of flavor. Overall – This is one amazing beer. One of the best if not the best stout I have ever had, and competes with the world wide I had run through the vanilla coffee randall. It is super smooth and approachable with a wonderful blend of flavors that make it a true pleasure to sit back and sip.

Bottle: Oily, thick black pour; glugs out of the glass slowly with a deep mocha foam that foams up & bubbles nicely on top. Aroma of rich fudge, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, mild maple syrup, a touch of mint, some woody tannins, dry coffee beans, really no bourbon character but a light but of roast flows throughout. Taste has a very nice chocolate element, tastes like biting into an elegant, rich chocolate candy bar. Bittersweet, milky with a light roasted element. Very light maple, mint, & a nice, burnt brown sugar character in the finish. Dark chocolate candy bar finish with a slight touch of burnt espresso; boozy & woody warmth for robustness. Thick, creamy body. A great stout.
