2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12oz bottle acquired in trade with valpoaj (thanks!). Poured a medium orange color with a very small sized head. Aromas of grains, light caramel, and very light peat/earthiness. Tastes of caramel, toasted grains, and maybe some fruitiness. Thinner and weaker in aromas, tastes and body.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
This is a decent beer with a smallish head and decent scent. It has a complex flavor that is a little heavy on the smoke (take this as you will since I had a Third Stone just prior to this). It is not bad, but when compared to others from Empyrean, it falls off a little.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
My 3rd favorite beer at Lazlo’s. Nice and malty and enough complexity to be enjoyable as your 1st or 4th beer of the night.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not bad, but not nearly as good as the Third Stone Brown. The roasted grains really stand out, and there’s an OK bite of hops, but the taste is a little thin. It’s not bad, but I expected a little more flavor out of a Scottish style.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle from Iowahawkeye (thanks!). Wow this one has a massive head, but it disspates quickly leaving almost no lace.. and no head at all...weird. Pours semi-clear gold.Nose is spicey and a little fruity.Taste starts sweet, then quickly tirns tart and spicey...almost ginger-like. Also has some witbier undertones in the aftertaste. Carbonation is high...too high. Body is light/medium. Not crazy about this one....

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
LIghtly roasted cereal grains dominate the aromas on this beer, some caramel and an open, grassy smell. Palate is short, and dry. Maybe a little on the thin side. The flavor profile falls down on malts, though, with a straightforward hop presence. Not much substance.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Somewhat foul aroma upon pouring, with a quickly dissolving white head. Pours a nice copper color and has a subtle caramel flavor. Nothing overly impressive, but a pleasant simple drink. Have had both in bottle form and on tap where it is brewed in Lincoln, NE, and it is a substantially better beer on tap than bottled

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
From a 12 oz. twist cap stubby bottle with no freshness date.
Poured a clear orangey copper with a foamy white that settled into a thin lacing.
Aromas of a watery peat, a fruitiness that had a slight banana twinge and a sweet soft grainy maltiness.
Start off fizzy, but moderate carbonation overall and softly crisp, thin and watery light bodied mouthfeel.
Thin and watery tasting, sweet caramelized sugary maltiness, a very watery fruitiness, like when there is not enough powdery fruit mix to water ratio, something that I think wants to be a peat flavor and a watery malty finish.
Because of taste and too thin a body for a Scottish Ale, the drinkability of this is not very high.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
12oz, no date on the bottle, but the six pack said Best before 11/31/06. Pours a clear light orange with a quickly fading (~20 seconds) one finger eggshell head into absolutely nothing. Poured like a soda pop. The aroma isn’t terribly strong, but there is a slight tinge of smoke--but not the kind you get in Scottish style ales. There is a little grain, metal, and caramel malts. Not enticing. The flavor is an improvement with some caramel and very light chocolate, light smoke, toasty malts are a bit stronger, and into a clean finish. Low bitterness. Thin bodied, sharp low-moderate carbonation. This is sucky.
