COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth-drinking, late-winter wonder. We’ve crafted this English-styled stout using roasted malts and a healthy dose of lactose sugar to produce a creamy-rich beer with hints of roasted chocolate.

Pour dark brown to black with 3 finger creamy beige head that has great retention and nice decent lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roast, dark caramel, light mineral notes, light roast coffee and an ashy note. Flavor is sweet chocolate, mild coffee, roast, toasted nutslactose sweetness, sweet caramel, ashen earth and YooHoo. Palate is light to medium bodied, creamy and a little syrupy on entry, lightly carbonated and syrupy and neutral on the finish. Decent sweet stout overall, could definitely use some more depth to the malt profile to stand up to the sweet taste.

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head that goes to a thin collar that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet lactic chocolate malts with a little roast.

The flavor is sweet, grainy, lactic, chocolate and vanilla with a little acidic roast. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent sweet stout - a little too much on the sweet side for me.

Tap - small foamy head, very dark brown/black color, sweet roasted malt aroma and flavor. Not my favorite type of beer, but no too bad.

Bottle. A nearly black brew with a rusty edge when held to light. The thin head is medium tan. The nose is sweet with lots of caramel and cocoa. There is also a nutty quality. The taste is fairly nutty almonds along with dashes of cocoa and roasted tea leaves. I would have actually liked this to be either a little more sweet or a little more roasty. As is, it hits in the middle, but it is just pedestrian. Almost like a brown ale that just had a little bit of darker malt thrown in along with a little bit of sweetness.

On tap. Dark black colour. Coffee aroma and coffee taste, but it seemed to be from the chocolate. Coffee and chocolate are delicious together. I really enjoyed this beer.

On tap at JL Beers, Grand Forks. Dark black, typical stout, colour, with off white head. Coffee, roasted malts aroma. The taste runs a fine line between coffee and chocolate. It’s roasty but also sweet. Nice beer.

On tap...pours black with a thin film of a head. Aroma is sweet malts, some milk chocolate, and roasted nuts. Flavor is very sweet...lots of milky chocolate, slight hints of tobacco, and some roasted malt accents...nicely done! Easy drinker...somewhat light in the body, but not experiencing any aftertaste like some folks did previously, so I’m thinking they’ve fixed this over time. I like my sweet stouts to be pretty light on the palate, and this one came through...one of the more enjoyable brews I’ve had from Empyrean.
