UPDATED: MAY 15, 2005 Another beer from the Beerquest series...the public votes on the best homebrew and the winner gets to brew his beer on the system at Empyrean. I didn’t taste the HB’d version, but have reliably heard that it was a canned extract kit...shows what most people in Nebraska consider good I guess...The Empyrean version(see further notes below) was a pretty big dissapointment for me, as I had hoped for a nice beer...alcohol dominated the finish, which seemed very out of place...there wasn’t that nice lingering malt/hop combo I was looking for...most of the rest of the beer was just a bit muddy...........I am forced to re-rate this beer...while I’m not convinced this is the pinnacle of bock beers, further sampling shows it so be much more melted together than the original notes claim...and the alcohol bite isn’t prominent...it could be a serving issue originally...a big sweet malty beer that did show some hop spice a bit...original rating of 6/3/6/2/11(2.8/5), has been superceded...
