COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A different spin on a traditional Belgian Abby Ale. Deep gold in color with the aroma of fresh biscuits and ripe fruit, tart in the middle with a crisp, herbal finish. Brewed stong enough to stand up to winterís chill.

This is a descent beer for me. Itís a light beer color, & I like those. It has a distinct after taste that I donít like which Iíd refer to as a resin of grass, wood taste, but it isnít the worst.

Bottle. Honey and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet barley malt and moderately bitter grass flavor.

Pour on tap at Happy Gnome, dark reddish pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of slight orange peel, cinnamon, clove, hints of caramel, toffee in there as well, kind of flabby with some acidic notes as well. Taste was a mix of slight acid, caramel, toffee, some fruity, sweet notes with some cinnamon, clove, finishing fairly sweet.

Cloudy orange body, with a medium white head and nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, spice and nutmeg. Taste is doughy, with hints of orange peel with a bitter aftertaste. Nothing Iíd seek out again.

Bottle: Pours dark gold with a small, off-white head. Fruit, bread, yeast aroma. Taste is woody, bitter fruit, malt. Herbal hop bittering. OK.

Hazy yellow. Whatís winter about this? Drinkable but very plain. (on tap at Winter Beer Dabbler, January 2014).

Pint glass poured from the tap at Happy Gnome. A beautiful pour with two fingers of head. Color is really counterintuitive...much lighter golden than expected from a winter Belgian red ale. Taste is really all over the place. Kind of hoppy. Kind of sweet. Kind of off. Comparing it to abstract at seems applicable. Based on other reviews, I think this one gets a bad rap. By no means a beer Iíd seek out again but there are definitely worse options especially considering it comes from Nebraska.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2014 An odd beer, for sure. The dark amber color doesnít hint at Belgian style flavors. Yet, thatís what this beer has to offer. Thereís Belgian yeast, spicy, fruity hops, and a bit of smokiness in the taste profile. Suffice it to say, this beer isnít for everyone. Yet, itís a decent seasonal offering from Empyrean. Iím not sure Iíd have another but I enjoyed this one.

This is a nice winter beer that leaves you feeling warm. It produces a very nice head and finishes with a slight aftertaste that isnít bad.

Pours a light copper, with no head. Aroma is minimal, but slightly malty. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Very little hops.. Nothing spectacular.
