3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 heemer77 (5008) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - NOV 14, 2011Bottle. Deep amber colored body with a large light khaki head. The nose is bright with some toasted almonds. There is also caramel candy and a little bit of oranges. The taste is toasted with lots of almonds. There is also a little bit of black pepper spice, especially in the finish. Hints of wood throughout. This is decent and a little different.

Pours a light copper, with no head. Aroma is minimal, but slightly malty. Thin and watery mouthfeel. Very little hops.. Nothing spectacular.

Pours cloudy golden with a tiny head that quickly dissipates. Fair amount of malt with a mildly hop finish. A pretty average amber.

12oz bottle labeled as Winter Axis Festivale, poured into a Shaker at 40°. Color is a hazy golden with a few floaties. Carbonation is light with a small white head. Aroma is sweet giving a light hop spice and orange. It has a medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is citrus with a note of pineapple, hop spice and a bit of yeast giving it a biscuit note. After taste is clean leaving a mild bitterness that is almost tart. Overall its a very tasty brew not as big and bold as I like a Winter brew to be but still very good.

The beer I tried is called the "winter axis" but I assume this is the same thing. For a winter seasonal, this isn’t all that spicy or flavorful. More akin to your average amber ale. Medium bodied, a bit nutty with some caramel.

English pint. Muddy orange brown color, leaves some lacing. Smell of spices and hops. OK taste, finishes pretty clean.

A bit of seasonal spice makes this a suitably festive ale, indeed. Forgot I’d had a couple Empyreans before. So far, this is my favorite.

Bottle. Clear reddish amber pour with a smaller white head. Aroma is muted fruits and caramel. Medium palate. Taste is similar to aroma in the elements, but there’s kind of a sharp, off-putting note in the taste as well. Not loving this one.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, red-orange appearance with an off white head that disappears pretty quickly. Toasty, fairly rich caramel malty, quite sweet, albeit it boring aroma. Fairly thick mouth feel. Big caramel, thick grassy, rich, sweet malty flavor. I’m not digging it.
