A solid stock standard beer. Certainly nothing fancy but has light feel to it.

Thanks for hauling the bottle over Jim. Light sweet, a hint citric aroma. Dark golden, no head. Fairly watery, light grain, a hint hops, not offensive, but not particulary interesting either.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 faroeviking (8805) - HAITI - DEC 30, 2006
Malty and grainy flavour with a little sweetness, dry finish. An allright tasting lager.

When compared against the Aussie archtype (Foster’s) this is a darn good beer. And when compared against the U.S.s mass produced beers this is a winner. It has a solid mouth feel (again considering we are talking about a mass produced lager and not a more complicated brew).
It’s slightly hoppy, not nearly in the range of a fine IPA but the taste is definitely there. The same brewery produces an EMU Bitters that will bump up the hops.
Not a very sweet malt but not very dry. The carbonation is not excessive and neither is the alchohol content (though the ABV is high enough that it must be respected). This beer fits its home environment perfectly. The kind of beer you would love to have while playing out in the desert - enough taste to be interesting but not so overwhelming as to slow you down while you enjoy a couple of cold ones before sunset.
For the type of beer it is trying to be it does a very good job. The range of beers from the Swan brewery is characteristic of the unknown Australinan brands.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2005 As a West Australian I have heard a lot of bad things about this beer. Ok so its not award winning stuff but its certainly not a horrible beer. A standard Aussie lager, no worse than many others. I would choose export over eb, swan draught and emu draft anyday. Overall not bad.

Pale golden beer, Pale malt sweetness. A bit herbal and slightly soapy. Grassy, grainy flavour. Another boring Aussie lager.

Pale lager, below-standard stuff, designed for hot weather and drinking with your buddies. Nothing wrong with that, but I’d choose any number of other beers to sit and swill over this one. Still, I’m happy to have had the pleasure of trying it while visiting from Canada!

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2005 I grew up on this beer, I guess because of the ’bloke ’s drink emu’ persona. This quickly died years ago when I realised this was just another macro-brewed harshly metallic, corn starch ’Ozzie’ style lager, that was great for the afterwards heartburn and little else. Although I still reminisce on my youth.....
