Bottle bought in Belgium, pours a dep dark red with a lasting fine beige head, aroma is light, with dark dried fruit and slightly smoky. Palate is dry with a little burnt brown sugar sweetness, vinous notes, a touch of burnt fruitcake, and a slightly roasty, dry and bitter finish. A little gassy but otherwise very nice.

Dark ruby brown with a good beige head. Aroma is dates, figs, brown sugar, nutmeg, caramel, chestnut. Medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel, malty and slightly nutty on the palate with a hint of spicy bitterness on the finish. Taste is dates, mildly spicy hops, grains of paradise, caramel, figs, prunes. Decent Dubbel.

Stereotypical abbey dubbel with a deep chestnut brown colour and loose, light yellowish beige head. Aroma primarily malty, walnuts, caramel, nut shells, pear, some candi sugar, some bitter chocolate, some grassy hops; malty and smooth palate with medium carbo, sweetish but not cloying or too sugary, dried fruits, nuts, yeast, some spiciness, mild herbal hops in the finish. No obvious flaws and quite enjoyable, but very straightforward and cliché; I do prefer this way over its Leffe or Grimbergen counterparts, though.

Dit is echt de minste van alle ename-bieren die ik geprobeerd heb, en ik ben normaal een fan van donkere bieren.
