COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This 2010 Vintage bottle-conditioned Amber Ale is full amber red in colour with copper hues. A rich, full bouquet with toast, lively cinnamon spice and a hint of bitter chocolate. Lifted gamey characters infused by sweetly spiced, herbal resinous characters. Full fruit weight is balanced by a creamy malty mid palate and an assertive drying bitterness. The back palate is all spice and cocoa with a refreshing zip. A true Amber ale – very age worthy.

Best after April 2011? So is this out of date or (as the bottle states it is cellarable) is this in it’s prime? Anyway fairly A-typical Amber. Not a lot going on beyond the toffee and caramel and a fairly light bitter finish. A bit tinny at this stage too. Pretty average. I gave this a go based on the above average ratings, but this just had little to offer.

Pours a dark amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma is quite faint with notes of dark fruits and spices. Taste is also faint but has some dark fruits, malt, with hints of chocolate leading to a subtle bitter finish. Pretty nice but I would like to see more force behind the aroma and taste.

Bottle - Pours dark amber with a thin white head. Choc and caramel in the aroma with a hint of spice. Flavours take a while to develop but are light and sprizty up front but then develop into a dry choc malt flavour with a burnt caramel lingering finish.

Pours brown with a small head. Nose shows nutty and toasty malt, soft chocolate and caramel. Pretty nice start. Flavours are a bit of a let down after that though, with just a little caramel and nutty malt. Pretty plain. Watery body. Could use more carbonation.

Bottle 330ml.

Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, bread, caramel, wood - oak, sweet cacao - cinnamon. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, strange sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110819]

Bottle. It’s a clear, amber beer with a small, dense, beige head. It’s coffee-ish, toffee-ish and slightly cellar-ish. The flavor is quite decent, coffee, toffee, some chocolate and a touch of bitterness are present, with some cellar. Semi-dry on the palate, with a smooth carbonation. A decent beer indeed. 110819

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber with slight head. Pleasant subtle aroma - chocolate, vanilla, hint of orange. Medium body, bright carbonation. Interesting flavour with lots going. Rich chocolate and tangy fruit with pleasant spicy hop notes all of which fall off abruptly to a long finish of slight hoppy bitterness and dark chocolate and coffee hints.
