COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the 2011 ENDEAVOUR True Vintage Reserve Pale Ale, we chose Summer, Galaxy and Cascade Hops. Summer came into its own this year and features prominently in our 2011 Pale Ale due to the unprecedented agronomical and analytical results. Given its genealogical makeup and its parentage in the Saaz varieties, it has some nice spice aromas that are typical of the variety, but stone fruits also dominate. Galaxy was used in our 2010 vintage and we liked it so much that we decided to continue with it in 2011 after a good harvest. While important for bittering and providing texture, it also gives a lovely citrus and passionfruit lift.

Cloudy, darker coloured beer. A well rounded taste that doesn’t jump out on you and is very satisfying. Never thought of fruit and all that ’ taste’ rubbish. This is a very good beer and so it should be, it is not cheap. All this breweries beers are good.

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, medium gold, with a white head. The aroma is malty, rather than hoppy, with notes of honey, lemon peel, bread, apricot, and faint traces of diacetyl. Dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty taste, hops, citrus peel, yeast, toffee, apricot, faint diacetyl and cardboard. (2012-07-16)

Bottle. Slightly hazy gold with a fluffy white head. Aroma of oranges, apricots, dough, some tropical fruit notes. Sweet and fruity with sweet citrus and stone fruits. A little too much carbonation. Less than balancing bitterness, but citrus lingers. OK, but cries out for more bitterness.

This beer flatters to deceive - it’s quite a nice nose with plenty of malt and sweet fruit but the taste is quite bland. Stew41 was on the money with the comparison to Asahi Super Dry - the drinking was kind of like licking cardboard. And where are the hops?
