Benno of the Stift Engelszell Trappist brewery from Engelhartszell an der Donau. Benno Stumpf was Abbot from 1953 to 1966 at the Abbey. The color is an orange red copper color. It has a good stable foam head and the smell is malty and hoppy. Taste stands out for its bitterness and is light sweet and yeasty.

Dark amber with a big head. The aroma is fruity with some spice. The flavor has a lot of fruit with the spice too and a little bread. Long and tasty finish.

Pours a huge 2-3 finger head, but didn't gush out the bottle either. Settles to 5mm, with good lacing on the glass. Aroma is one of the stronger points; sweet winter fruits, spice and a touch of citrus peel. Not too easy to pick out. The taste is at first overpowered by carbonation at the front of the palate. There's some sweet Belgian fruit and some spice, especially as the taste dries towards the back of the mouth. Some sour apple and Belgian hay, a mix of winter spice and summer flavours. It does linger, but wouldn't demand further drinking either. There's a soapy taste, akin to that found in Little Creatures Pale Ale. The high carbonation in the body washes away a lot of the taste at first impact. The beer dries over the palate, but the poor first taste does little to draw you back. Poorly balanced. Contrasts to the world's greater quad's and imperial stouts that present you with a perfect balance of flavours one after another. Overall inoffensive and quite refreshing, but hardly memorable either. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma of yeast, slightly fruity and slightly citrus. Good fruity and tasty beer. Almost a bit watery but I liked it. Good bitterness which fills the upper part of the mouth a weak moment. One of the better Belgian ale beer I’ve tested. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

330ml bottle. Clear amber red-brown with tall off white head and very lively carbonation when poured, almost gusher. Aroma of belgian abbey yeast, fruits (pears mostly but also slightly acidic green apples), some wheat character and a slight booziness. Similar taste, initially light, sweet and fruity going over towards more yeast, wheat and slight booziness and finally finishing sweet with honey and some slight caramel. Mouthfeel is medium and so is the carbonation once drank.

33cl bottle from Sebilinz, thanks! Euro Swap 2 /2015. Deep amber, thick white head. Wheat, spices, yeast, raisins in aroma. Flavor has bun dough, sweet fruits, banana. Belgian yeast in the long sweet finish. High drinkability, not very complex though.
