Benno of the Stift Engelszell Trappist brewery from Engelhartszell an der Donau. Benno Stumpf was Abbot from 1953 to 1966 at the Abbey. The color is an orange red copper color. It has a good stable foam head and the smell is malty and hoppy. Taste stands out for its bitterness and is light sweet and yeasty.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a brown colour with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, toasty, fruit, caramel, spice and some hops. Taste is medium sweet. Perhaps "Trappist" by official designation but far from the lofty heights set by other Trappist beers.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy, amber coloured beer with a beautifull beige frotty head. Very subtle aromas of caramel and dark fruits and so is the flavour. Dry finish medium to light body. Somewhat watery. Easy to drink. Not bad not great.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is dark amber colored and pours a large cream colored head, with a lot of bubbles. In the aroma tones are recognizable of pears and caramel. The taste is a nice palate of tones from pears, caramel, nuts, chocolate and bananas but is a little watery in the end. The finish is light bitter and is noticable for a while. Very nice brew from Austria, but too expensive. I can think of better beers which are much cheaper and better.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
backlog rating, forgot about this one, deep light amber coloured pour with a white head, Malts, belgian yeast, caramel, and some weird spicy aroma notes. Malts, bit fruity, yeast, spices, light bitterness in the aftertaste. very boring for a trapist beer, like all off their beers.

12 oz bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a thin head. Nice peary, soft fruit, and white grape like aroma. Flavor is a lot of the same, which is quite nice. A bit of belgian yeast in the finish. Quite refreshing of a heer, and a little different than I expected. Good beer.
