Aangenaam donker biertje dat iedereen wel zal lusten maar dat geen uitwisbare indruk achterlaat

The second beer from this Austrian trappist brewery founded only in 2011. A honey beer apparently, with a stable, creamy, off-white head and reddish amber colour, misty. Nose gets lots of nutty malts, bitter honey, gingerbread, biscuit, caramel, white grapes, cinnamon, lemon peel and yoghurt, the latter probably due to a mild infection. This is also reflected in the taste, revealing some lactic acid conflicting with the overall taste profile, one of citrussy and light spicy notes, nutty and caramelly maltiness, a very subtle hint of honey, and a mildly grassy, medium long finish. Nothing of outstanding class happening here, and these new non-Belgian trappist breweries still fail to conquer my heart so far...

Bottle 33 at home. Probably defective. Amber color, white head not persistent. Strong malty aroma. Acidic taste and bitter final. Overall not good.

Had at the Great Arkansas Beer Festival 2014. Pours a hazy amber. Citrus and some barnyard on the nose, and flavor follows. Some yeastiness. Nice beer.

Opaque orange with small off-white lacing foam head. Aroma is mainly barley, some floral present. Real nice bitter taste, with some cheesy notes. Lasting bitter aftertaste. (Velp 201407)

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-amber body with a medium creamy white head. Nose is banana esters, nuts, straw, bread and hints of caramel and white chewing gum. Taste is banana esters, straw, mild alcohol notes, pale malts, hints of nuts and white sugary tones. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty decent beer, but I feel this one doesn’t stand out much compared to the other Trappist offerings.

Upon opening barnyard and honey are the primary aromas, but as the beer warms, Belgian yeast fragrances surface. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with a nice one finger ivory head and abuntent lacing. The palate is bready, with honey, green grapes, and combined with some barnyard funk, all arriving at a dry somewhat finish. Medium-light body and medium carbonation. Overall, a decent Belgian ale and vy drinkable, but, alas, I’ve also had better.
