Pours orange/amber, small head. Smells yeasty, and a bit vinegary. Tastes malty and sweet, with a huge yeast presence. Spices, mild sweet citrus, bread, bit of salt. Finishes slowly, with sweet spiciness and pepper.

Transfer from BA review on 6-19-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer pours a hazy and murky brownish amber color with a one finger tan colored head. The head has a decent retention, fading over time to leave a lighter level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is of fruit and biscuit with lots of cherry and plum. Along with these smells other aromas of a honey and a decent presence of a yeasty aroma bringing with it spice of coriander, pepper and clove. Taste –The taste begins with a biscuit malt flavor mixed with darker fruits of cherry and plum. Unlike in the nose not much honey was detected in the taste, but instead the sweetness came largely from the fruit flavors. More toward the middle a tartness and yeastiness began developing on the tongue along with some spice of coriander. These flavors take the taste to its end where the tart and more tart flavors get more potent leaving a biscuit and fruity tart flavor to linger in the mouth. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. For the tart flavors of the brew a slightly thinner body may have been slightly more appropriate although the medium carbonation level was a nice balancer of the tart and the biscuit flavors that were simultaneously present at the end. Overall – An alright dubbel but nothing too out of the ordinary here in my opinion.

Pours a dark golden to amber with loads of head. Aroma is fruity and spicy with some slight maltyness. Flavors of dried fruits, spices and some orange peel. Very strong alcohol flavor. I think this one is fermented maybe a tad too high as there is quite a bit of fusel flavors present.

Pours a light nut-brown with huge off-white head. Nice aroma with nutty scents, some butterscotch, a hint of red cherries and some metal. Medium bodied palate, somewhat tame with light sweetness and a hint of coffee. Pretty long finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

In bottle (Brussels); pours golden orange. Somewhat citrusy with honey notes ... easy drinking but a little hoppy/dry at the finish. Overall, an OK beer ...

Orange color, minimal but stable head. Aroma of resin, caramel, honey, banana. Bitter taste with some sweetness too. Soft carbonation, bitter finish. A special beer, very different from the classic trappists. Quite good actually.

First Austrian Trappist beer. From bottle into Orval goblet. Pours a hazy red-bronze. Nice head. Aroma is interesting - has some smoke and sour notes to it. Kind of meaty and malty. A bit sticky and slightly too bitter, but overall nice. The Belgian masters are still on top.
