UPDATED: DEC 26, 2014 330ml bottle served in a Chimay chalice. Best before 02.05.2015. Most probably bottled in 2013. A: Pours a dark and bit cloudy brown color. Some small chunks can be seen when it’s poured. Forms a small, solid and creamy beige head with low retention and only very few lacings left in the glass. A thin layer remains forever on the top. S: Roasted and very fruity notes in upfront. Grapes. Spices. Strong notes of dark dry fruits like raisins and plums followed by some roastiness. Coffee notes. Strong notes of caramel, candi sugar and sweet bread. Some alcohol notes but well hidden. T: Slightly sweet and roasted upfront. Very fruity. Strong notes of grapes, raisins, caramel and roasted malts. Very bready yeasts. Medium bitterness. Some hints of grassy hops. M: Heavy, creamy and a bit molasses body. Caramel and sweet bread in the aftertaste. Bittersweet. O: Good drinkability. An authentic Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Nice Austrian Trappist beer. [ BA Review @ 10/20/2013 ]

Bottle pours a cloudy dark brown with a frothy tan head. Retains for awhile, with prominent lacing. Aroma would be cherry chocolate if I hadn't ruined my sinuses with powder drugs. Tastes of sweet dark malt, raisin, and toothpaste.

Lovely beer and much better than I expected. Not that it is a style, but it certainly has a trappist feel to it. Earthy, deep, not too pronounced but with something fresh in thr finish. Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis.

Botle: Deep brown with a short, dark tan head. Dark bread, raisin, chocolate aroma. Flavour is thick...dark fruit, chocolate malt, cake.. Very nice.
