This was poured into a tulip thinking this was a regular Belgian ale, sorry, next time I have this, I’ll make sure its in a chalice/trappist glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of a glaze of a film of an off white head. Nice looking concave glaze along the sides. The smell has sweet plums, raisins, and cherries melding into a delicate roasty cocoa powder underneath. The taste was moderately sweet through the fruity features and bringing about the cocoa powder to run into a delicate bready flavor underneath. Lingering bready aftertaste slides into a sticky finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation runs nice and low. It’s somewhat dry on my tongue. Overall, though I didn’t pour it into its correct glassware, I’d still say this was a nicely done quad. Somehow I still got everything that I believe the brewer had intended. I’d have again.

In bottiglia.

0,33 L bottle, pours hazy and dark brown colored with light brown & creamy head, heavy malty aroma, dark chocolate, roasted malt, smoke. Light yeasty on the nose (dough). Flavor is according to the aroma. Moderate sweetness, light acidic. Light bitter, long finish. Full body with creamy texture. Soft carbonation, light dryness and smoke in the finish.

2015-10-31. Murky dark brown body, small tan head fades quickly. Malty aroma with tangy alcoholic accents. Flavour is similar, malty core is briefly sweet then dry with alcohol and tangy fruity quality. Smooth medium bodied palate, carbonation is a touch low for the style. 3+ Just okay, it shows promise but lacks the subtlety and cohesiveness of say a Rochefort. 7/3/7/3/14 Bottle from the LCBO cellared several months, Toronto.

Dark brown with a reddish tint. Almost no head. Spicy nose, plums. Aromas of wine, burnt caramel, malt, sour cherries. Quite an earthy finish with a lot of alcohol

Was in a dark bar (the great Hopleaf in Chicago), but this looks like a normal Belgium quad. Has the Belgium yeast mixed with dark fruits like plum, malt, and a chocolate/toffee taste. Sometimes reminds me of a wine or brandy feel to it. A bit of an oily texture and mouthfeel, with medium low carbonation. I was unfamiliar with this beer, but I am glad I tried it. I will choose a Westmalle or Chimay over it any time, but will never turn down a bottle of this.
