Not what I expected, tastes of caramel, roasty, doughy, but a little fizzy. Very intense licorice, powerful prune aftertaste. I would place it as one of the lower ranked Trappists.

A wonderful dark Trappist! Aroma of burnt toffee, dark caramel, and raisins. More of the same in the taste. Nice, burnt, but balanced aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the LCBO. Jesus, it’s been HOW long since I put in a rating? I fear my backlog. Deep clear fizzy red-brown with a smallish diminishing tan fizzy head. Fairly simple aroma - fruit, alcohol, quite sweet and yeasty, but not all that complex; a little herbal. Taste is also simple - alcohol, prune and sweet malt - my wife says it has a metallic/ferrous aftertaste, but I think that was synergy. Stingingly carbonated, a little thin, not boozy in the finish at all - not bad, doesn’t taste over 10% - borderline "meh"

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light auburn tinge. Aroma is complex. Spice, cinnamon, caraway, star anise. Dark, ripe fruits. Peach, banana, fig, light roast, dark malt. Taste is full, spicy, light roast, dark fruits, fig, spicy. Caraway, star anise, light ginger. Finishes sweet with liquorice and aniseed. Could be fuller.

First bottle! Pours deep brown-red with gold highlights, looks both serious and beautiful. Loads or rich flavors like ripe grapes, figs, vanilla, mineral and toffee. Some high notes like lemon and nuances of manure and barnyard. Has a creaminess elegance and mystique I was wholly not expecting, wow! Gonna stock up - I have a new friend and maybe it will age well.
