Bottle picked up at the COOP tonight for about $6... Poured into my HotD goblet and received a short lasting tan head with little to no lacing... the brew is hazy dark walnut... Looked like quite a bit of yeast/sediment got into the glass during the pour before I noticed. Nose shows earthy dark maltiness with little in the way of traditional esters or phenols.. mainly just dark malt with a subtle kiss of malt sweetness... does not smell "malty" though if that makes sense. Flavor is dominated by again sorta dry dark malt essence... a bit of sweetness reminds me of a musky mead... dry dusty, sorta nutty dark malt on the finish. Okay carbonation and body.. but both seem a little muddy. Better than average certainly, but I guess I was hoping for more.

bottle from palma.pitch dark, brown head. aroma is very strong, very complex and very heavy. lots of roasted malts as well as dried dark fruits. also sour roasted malts, salty lcorice.Flavor is very heavy, roasted malty, dark dried fruits, licorice, Toffee, burnt carael, booze. Very interesting Quad, super complex flavor profile, a little bit too much burnt caramel and booze, but a potent and flavorfull quad allright.

330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark rubyish brown with good-sized, lasting light tan head. Aroma is rich, ripe cherries, ripe plum, toffee, bread and light spice. Flavour is quite rich and fruity with dark cherry, plum/prune, toasty grains, toffee/caramel and light spiciness with a bit of a medicinal note. Fine, reasonably lively carbonation. Interesting one, if a little boozy.

330ml bottle at home. Pours a dark amber-colored Trappist. Taste explosion, strong bitter toffee finish.

Pours a large amount of foamy bubbly beige head and has a dark murky brownish appearance. Lacing is ok. Aromas of barley malts, yeast, wheats. Flavours are fairly strong and malty, lots of sweet notes, toffee and light chocolatey hints. Excessive carbonation. Full bodied mouthfeel. Some bitterness in the finish.

Very dark amber color with beige head. Aroma has a lot of dark sugar and plums. Taste follows with dark fruits and yeasty spiciness. Leans just a bit to the sweet side but overall itís quite balanced. Medium-full body and medium-high carbonation. Overall itís a good beer but nothing really special.

Bottle shared with Anna, Roey and Tal, Vienna, 25.7.2015. Murky brown. Some nuts, a little bit of alcohol and some cinnamon in the nose. Sweet alcoholic bitterness and spices in the mouth. Full body, very carbonated, long, sweet finish.

Austria huh? Close enough to Belgium. Looks like a brownie in a glass with a tan head. Smells really good of raspberries, caramel malts and a touch of booze. Tastes really rich, of lots of caramel malts, a heady amount of booze, raspberries and cherries. The aftertaste is a smooth roll out of those sweet malts, and lingering booze. Despite its inability to hide booze, at all, this is a really damn good quad. Of course I waited until the LCB-dOh doesnít have anymore to finally try this one. Le Sigh.

Deep beautiful colour, unfortunately I was a bit too enthusiastic on the pour, so I got a bit too much sediments in the glass from this bottle conditioned beer. Traditional dark fruit and alcohol notes in the nose. Thick, creamy, rich mouthfeel that just explodes in flavours from the dark fruits. Sharp bitterness along with a lively carbonation and a sticky sweetness. Not a great fan of trappist beers, but Iíve had a few -- Westmalle, Orval and Rochefort 8 and 10 to name some of them. Will easily prefer a Rochefort 8 as a treat to myself. This one was a little too much fermented cherries for me.

Bottle from Dranken Pauwels. New Trappist beer. Pours deep reddish dark brown with some clarity and an off whtie head which disspipates quickly. Nose is very nice. Nose is very sweet and malty with a lot of dried fruit. Prune, raisin, sultana, chocolate, caramel, very slight lactic, yeast if more like an ale yeast. Taste is sweet, dried fruit, prune, raisin, sultana, earthy hop bitter, plum. Itís very sweet but has some nice bitternes from the hops to counter it. Rich and very fruity. Shade too sweet for me.

.33l pour from room-temperature bottle into an Engelszell glass while sitting on the banks of the Danube after visiting the abbey. Light brown, opaque, with a bubbly light tan head. Considerable carbonation. Nose is estery, fruity, raisin, plum, nutty, biscuit, a little roasty, and definite honey. Full body, though a bit thin for the size, lots of carbonation, crisp. Very flavorful. Strong boozy notes. Plum, raisin, nuts, licorice, definite honey, maybe a hint of cocoa, vanilla. Sweet, bitter, dry, tart, and sour, all at once. Wonderful complexity. Strong alcohol present on the finish.
