3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle picked up at the COOP tonight for about $6... Poured into my HotD goblet and received a short lasting tan head with little to no lacing... the brew is hazy dark walnut... Looked like quite a bit of yeast/sediment got into the glass during the pour before I noticed.
Nose shows earthy dark maltiness with little in the way of traditional esters or phenols.. mainly just dark malt with a subtle kiss of malt sweetness... does not smell "malty" though if that makes sense.
Flavor is dominated by again sorta dry dark malt essence... a bit of sweetness reminds me of a musky mead... dry dusty, sorta nutty dark malt on the finish.
Okay carbonation and body.. but both seem a little muddy.
Better than average certainly, but I guess I was hoping for more.

I had very few foam on the beer and it dissapeared within seconds. Very heavy body, in my opinion it is a good beer but does not come close to any of its Belgian or single Dutch Trappist brothers.

UPDATED: JUL 2, 2014 Bottle from Blue Max. Deep dense looking cola - brown pour with a frothy head. Aroma is dark fruit, prune, yeast, and something pretty sweet. Taste is similar. Moderate palate. Solid.

Pours a dark mahogany with a tan head; tobacco and espresso on the nose; chalky mouth feel to the palate; dry. Tastes like a stout vice a quad. Not my favorite.

From bottle in La Trappe glass, very nice appearance, with a very dark/black colour and humble white head. Smells like honey and apple syrup. Sometimes creamy tasting bittersweet with honey and dark bitter chocolate that confuces me sometimes.
Very surprising new trappist that adds a unique item.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is rich sweet malts, honey, caramel, plum, raisins and brown sugar. Taste is sweet maltiness with some slight roastiness. Dark fruits, apple and Belgian sugars are here alongside some yeastiness.Finishes with some warm alcohol mouth feel. The appearance is an amber/brown with a beige /brown head that retains fairly poorly. Slight fruity sediment present.

Birra molto particolare.
