Served on hand pump at Toronado. Oh God this was nice, with that smooth, natural English ale mouthfeel. Very chocolatey for a porter, almost a chocolate stout. Light coffee tones, with a dry malty backbone, like a milk dud. I could drink pint after pint of this, methinks.

Good fine foam, looks but isn’t nitro. Good nose with burnt, coffees and chocolate. The taste is semi-dry, a bit wet and low efferevescence with a crisp and easy finish. Peter Blackwell knows what he’s up to!

(Cask. 03/2006) Chalky aromas with a hint of roasted malts. Deep, deep brown, almost black, with good, tan, moussy head that dissipates slowly to a medium film. No lace. Very little flavor (but not a terribly bad thing). Medium-full bodied, which makes this rather tasteless beer rather pleasant to drink. Very soft carbonation. A surprisingly fruity hoppiness in the background as you sip/swallow. Slightly astringent, almost dry, aftertaste. A definite lactose quality makes it smooth, relatively (and surprisingly) full in the mouth, and just slightly sweet.

Tap at the Fish Hoppers Restaurant in Monterey, CA. Pours dark brown with ruby glints and a big creamy light tan head. Nice chocolate aroma. Near med body. Flavor is chocolate, smooth burnt malt, and a light, light touch of coffee with some herby hop. Finishes nearly dry and nicely bitter.
