COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Has also been available bottle conditioned.
A traditional beekeepers ale, pale yellow, a fruity bitter with an initial sweetness progressing to a complex dry hoppy taste based on an old nineteenth century recipe.Enville Ale is produced using 100% Maris Otter floor malted barley and top fermenting ale yeast. It is processed through an initial very rapid fermentation followed by a priming process using selected honeys which are specially processed (patent pending) and then allowed to secondary ferment before being lagered (stored at cold temperature) for a precise period of time. This process enables the brewery to produce conditioned beer with a controlled yeast count in cask - the result is a traditional cask conditioned beer in which the carbonation has been carefully controlled.

Bottle conditioned. Yet another bad english bottle conditioned beer. The beer was overcarbonated and gushed, dragging up yeast sediment which then taints the flavour.Faint suggestion of honey on the nose. Harsh estery finish.

First tasted this in the Hipflask, Saltcoats in April 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear amber in colour with a thick white head. Hint of clear honey and floral notes in the short aroma. Thin watery mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit base with a strong undercurrent of mead coming through. Dusty floral hop resins give a dry note to the short aftertaste. Finish is weak and watery with a slight sweetness in the malt and little else. An ok session bitter but nothing outstanding.

Cask at the Bird in Hand, Wordsley. Pours a very pale yellow with a medium head. Aroma was sulphur and eggy hops. Honey sweetness to start, then sulphur then a honey finish. Not good. Was this an off pint? No one else int he pub seemed to mind. Will have to try at a different place in the future.

A Sim rate (cask at the Magnet, Stockport): Smells of sulfur and a bit of yeasty breadiness. It smells how I would expect the gents’ to smell. Ummm...not great. Unfortunately it looks like something you might find in the gents’ too. I’d like to say that the taste makes up for it, but it doesn’t. It’s tart with a sulfury citrus flavour. Then it’s dead with just a bit of breadiness. Really really not impressed. Where’s the festival special?

Predominant glue aroma on my pint. Feels smooth on the palate. Sweet honey malt flavour with a lemon and orange bite. Fairly pleasent summer quaffer.

Cask (handpump) @ Robin Hood, DY8, Amblecote. Clear light yellow color with a small creamy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is light yeasty, fruity, toffee. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average to short duration. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat.

Straw colour with a good size white creamy head. Very malty scent, some citrus. Very slight bitterness. Honey and melon aromas and some maltiness. Ruined by a rather sulphuric end.

Cask conditioned @ Humble Plumb, Soton. Biscuity malts and mild strawy hops. A bit on the bland side.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Battersea Beer Festival 2006. Blonde and slightly hazy. Diacetyl is apparent on both nose and palate, which rather detracts from the otherwise dry and crisp citric character. Can’t imagine the butterscotch was intended, so suspect the condition.

Cask gravity at Battersea Beer Festival 2006. Hazy gold, some diacetyl, quite fresh on aroma but then deadish pale malt. Some tangy fruit, followed by more butterscotch. Finish is citricly focussed. Not sure it was ready or in the best of conditions

Cask (handpulled) at Flowerpot, Derby. Blissful on a warm day. That sweetness creeps rather than sweeps, dryness at the end is soft towel not sandpaper. Had to have a few just to make sure it stayed consistant ;)
