3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FunkyBrewster (1515) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 4, 2012
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2012 Bottle. Pours deep brown with a small Off white head. Aroma is disappointing, a stinky character that is most aggressive with some spice and the pumpkin note there. Flavor is better with some herbal notes spicy and an earthy chocolate note. Finishes with some herbal spice. Medium body and a soft carbonation.

Pour is dark brownish with nice off white almost tan head out of 22 oz bottle, release #4, aroma has notes of chocolate, pumpkin, sweet biscuit, nice caramel and toffee notes, some nice cinnamon and clove notes. Taste is a nice mix of caramel and toffee, chocolate and roast, slight pumpkin vegetal notes but really nice sweetness from it goes into a crackery, biscuity finish, dries out fairly well. Delicious stuff!

Thanks to Armin for sharing - dark ruby pour - aroma of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), vanilla, rum, light pumpkin flesh, bittersweet chocolate - full to medium body - nicely dry and roasty, with a fair amount of cocoa - light amount of cinnamon - a bit or earthy pumpkin on the tail end - a fair amount of black malt bitterness - lingering coffee and roast - a very nice brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dogbrick (6178) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 1, 2012
This brew pours dark brown with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of chocolate malt and pumpkin. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, pumpkin, chocolate and hops. The finish is malty with a lingering pumpkin and bittersweet chocolate aftertaste. Above average overall.

22 oz bomber of a swing and a miss. I see where Epic wanted to go here but it didn’t hit. What you have is a beer that is loaded with chocolate and some sort of vegetable that can’t be named...squash, maybe...green tomatoe, maybe.... Broccoli , well probably not that. The body is on the medium side with a chalky/milky finish and soft carbonation. Overall interesting at best but the flavors/aromas need work.

22 oz bottle. Deep, clear brown with beige foam that leaves rings of lace. Nose is squash, nutmeg, cinnamon and mocha. Medium body with a tang. Taste is even more oddly vegetal with coffee grounds, molasses and bitter herbs. Has a rustic appeal and does manage to avoid over spicing.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Arayaga2 (1635) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 26, 2011
Ruby black with a dense tan head of about a cm. Aroma is earthy with peanut butter, nutmeg, and other spices in the aroma. Taste is a letdown from the aroma, but still good, with more pumpkin character, and vegetal astringency that I have come to expect in pumpkin beers. $6/22oz

On tap at Papago pouring up dark mahogany body and lasting dark tan head. The modest aroma offers up dark roasted malts, unmistakable pumpkin notes and faint spiciness. The taste is a bit spicy to start with a winter spice like twist and then quickly followed by sweet cherry esters, yeast, dark roasted malts, slightly burnt malts and then ribbons of sweet pumpkin meat amid the spices and dark roasted maltiness. This has a full rich brew flavor where a bit more pumpkin would be interesting although it is pretty nice as is.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 stimulus (86) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 24, 2011
22 oz bottle. Release #4. 7.7%abv.
A: Pours a dark brown with ruby edges and a 1/2 finger beige head.
S: Lots of vanilla bean and a bit of cinnamon.
T: Similar to the taste, but other spices come out here, especially cloves. Some bitter chocolate is present on the finish to balance out the sweetness and spice from the adjuncts used in this beer.
M: Good carbonation, medium bodied, and no alcohol bite at all.
O: I think this is a good spiced winter porter, but could have used more flavor of the pumpkin. Otherwise, I think the brewery should go a little lighter on the vanilla bean, cinnamon, clove, and whatever else was used in this beer, if they would like to market it as a pumpkin porter.
