COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed on: October 10, 2011. Packaged on October 25, 2011. Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spice and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and dark chocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

Bomber, batch #3, pours a deep brown with thick tan head. Aroma is very clean and yeasty with some spices. Flavor is richly malty with some clean yeast that gives it a classic porter taste, but then there is pumpkin pie spices and a little bit of hop fruitiness. Overall this is a very interesting brew I like the classic porter profile a nice pumpkin addition with some cool spice to it.

Bottle. Pours with a deep brown hued, not quite black body with a very large, deep tan head. Tight carbonation, great lace and retention. Aromas of pumpkin seeds, chocolate, fresh baked bread, nutmeg, cinnamon, lightly vegital, clove, leather, lactose and graham cracker. Flavors are nutty and leathery with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lactose/milk sugar, and chocolate. Malty, pine and a bit spicy. Pumpernickel. On the drier side of things for a big porter. Odd but pretty tasty. Medium carbonation, medium to slightly sweeter finish. Full bodied. Spiced fudge.

Dark brown pour with a khaki head. Strong all spice and nutmeg notes. A touch of vanilla, some roasted malts, and a touch of anise. There is just a bit of chocolate and some toasted bread sweetness. Strong bitter chocolate flavor to this. Some hints of vanilla along with lots of nutmeg and all spice. Maybe a bit of burnt toast and roasted malt. Just a bit of caramel and marshmallow as the beer warms up.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Lots of pumpkin in this beer, and it is flat out tasty. There is some spice of cinnamon, but it not overwhelming. Love it!!

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with a small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel malts and light roast. Thin mouthfeel with a light spice and cinnamon flavor with a light dry finish. A decent spice brew from Epic Brewing.

This is a really well balanced beer. A lot of "pumpkin" beers hit you over the head with piles of cinnamon. That isn’t the case with this beer. You really do get a lot of the sweetness and flavor of the pumpkin, which is balanced out with deep roast. The other spices round out the flavor, but don’t overwhelm.

Pours dark brown with a thick lt mocha head...great lacing and retention. Aroma has some roastiness and spice...pumpkin pie spices...a bit of carmelized sugar. Flavor is pumpkin pie with roasty and burnt notes...burnt notes are too dominant. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is spicy and burnt...dry and lingering.

Bottle:   Deep burnt brown sugar in color, not quite as dark as others, moderate foamy tannish head, fairly nice lacing.   Roasted malt nose, underlying spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.   Smells fairly inviting.   Sweet roastiness up front, followed by quite a bit of spices.   Comes quickly, but also exits quickly.   Picking up soft cinnamon, nutmeg, sweetened butternut squash, with some very minor lingering clove.   Slightly dry on the exit.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Seems fairly well balanced, albeit I dont get a lot of chocolate or vanilla on the nose, I do get some pumpkin pie, crust, and whipped cream.   Not a robust Porter by any means, but the roastiness compliments the spices.   The finish very much reminds me of a little creme brulee with pumpkin pie.   I almost wished it were a bit heavier, meatier, but then again it could easily be cloying.   As is its very enjoyable and easily one of the better Pumpkin like Porters out there.   Thanks Dallas for the bottle!

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown in color with a large creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor make a lot of sense after reading the description. Roasted malts and chocolate from the base porter. Fleshy pumpkin with the requisite spices found in a pumpkin beer. These are married without one dominating the other. Some vanilla works in with a smooth mouth feel. Pretty nice.
