Brewed on: October 10, 2011. Packaged on October 25, 2011. Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spice and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and dark chocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, and cinnamon. Flavor starts roasted malt and unsweetened cocoa, vanilla and some light pumpkin. Followed with some light spicing of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Finishes with bitterness of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Thanks Maxbier for hanging on to this one to share with me.

Dark brown pour. Big tan head. Plenty of lacing. Smells like chocolate pumpkin pie. Taste is malty with some chalky spice-ness. Decent.

A roasty, slightly spicy aroma. Smooth and roasty in the mouth with some cinnamon and vanilla, a touch of pumpkin flesh flavor and sweetness. This is like a wonderful pumpkin version of Anchor’s Our Special Ale.

Pours jet black with a dense and creamy tan head that lasts and lasts, showing plenty of lace. Bright nose of pie spice and toasty chocolate malt. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Chocolate, roast, and pie spice on the mid palate, beautifully integrated. Long sweet finish.

Bottle: Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is soft with the typical pumpkin spices, but alive with a real pumpkin smell. Faint cocoa. Taste is more focused on the pumpkin, some sweetness like pumpkin pie; I’m imagining crust and whipped cream. Light cocoa and roast. Creamy feel. Very nice.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a half finger tanish head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate with pumpkin pie spices and dark fruit. Taste is light bitter and light sweet. Follows aroma. Mostly milk chocolate with hints of coffee in the finish. Something odd in there also, possibly roasted pumpkin. Pretty good.

Bottle - Release #21 - Black pour with a huge foamy light tan head. Nose is cocoa, medium-dark roast, pumpkin meat, whipped cream, and a bit of pumpkin pie spice. Taste is a chocolate-vanilla bomb, with medium roast malt, a touch of pumpkin, and a bitter roasty finish. Not a ton of pumpkin in the taste. Thinnish with medium carbonation.
