3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours clear rich chestnut with a large creamy tan head that dissipates slowly with great lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, ashtray, allspice, vanilla. Flavor is rich and roasty, cocoa powder, spice is light, not getting much pumpkin per se. A bit of vanilla, some cigarette and coffee. Light sweet, light plus bitter. I really like the fact that the spices do not play a central role here. Makes for a nice enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
the pumpkin in here is quite subtle. the spice and vanilla come out a lot more it seems. there is also a taste of unfermented wort and a smell of unfermented grain on the nose. not sure if that was intentional. still, very tasty and not cloying.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with a light tan head that lingers longer than expected. Color reminds me of a Guiness, but with longer lasting head. Smells faintly of pumpkin, a spice, and maybe slightly of vanilla.
Has a light pumpkin pie taste with vanilla. There is a bit of a coffee backend, but more of a dark chocolate. Creamy. Then it turns wrong. There is a feeling on the tongue that lasts long. It reminds me of an IPA feel, but it is not hops. I think it is a spice. It tingles a bit. The feeling for this style of beer is off-putting to me. The finish just doesn’t fit. It is what keeps making me change the taste rating from 7 to 8, as I am having trouble separating the displeasure on the palate from the actual taste.
It is definitely one of the best pumpkin beers I have had, but the finish makes it so I am still probably not having another one.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle pours a watery mahogany brown with some thin, white head. Nose is a big punch of spice, cardamom, candied ginger, cinnamon, some vanilla, a little toast. Flavor is the same, if you wanted to spice a porter then this is the way to do it, malt, molasses, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, some deeply caramelized root veg. Lightly sweet, lightly spicy finish. Liked this much more than I thought.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 ml bottle. Batch/release #10. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head that has fair retention and ample lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength with pumpkin, vanilla and pie spices. The taste, like the aroma, is bitter-sweet with more pumpkin pie spices, vanilla, earthy grains and bitter walnuts. The palate was full, but just a bit slick and oily, and with soft carbonation. Finished long and dry with lingering bitter walnuts. Overall: Better than average pumpkin ale.
