COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed on: October 10, 2011. Packaged on October 25, 2011. Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spice and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and dark chocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

22oz bottle, Release #2: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and cinnamon nose with some pumpkin notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and toasty dark caramel malts with some earthy bitterness and spices before a drier lightly roasted bittersweet finish. Could use a little more pumpkin flavor, but otherwise pretty well balanced.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/25/12

Aroma: It has a nose of pumpkin spice, cinnamon, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.
Appearance: This one pours a brownish color with a small head and some drippy lacing.
Flavor: It starts off with some sweetness from the chocolate, caramel, and vanilla, which works nicely alongside the pumpkin spice. Eventually the sweetness and spice is rounded out nicely by a roasted finish.
Palate: The body medium, it is fairly creamy, with a smooth, flowing mouthfeel, and a soft carbonation.
Overall Impression: I thought this one was quite good (and also felt fairly unique). There was quite a bit going on, but it all worked well together, and it didn’t really feel at all muddled to me. The flavors all really just worked well together. This turned out to be quite a nice collaboration.

Pours a murky redish brown with a finger of light brown head. Minimal lacing/beading. Very malty on the nose - definite nutmeg, pumpkin, squash, some cinnamon, caramel, quite a bit going on here. Tasty stuff. Usually this style is restricted to the autumn months and it is refreshing to get this robust profile in early May. Full bodied, obvious spice, yet approachable. Some bright fruits linger on the afertaste. Overall, this is a style that, honestly, I wish had a year round presence. I can see why people confine it too a certain season though as it definitely fits the bill.

Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, slight roasted malts, and just a hint of pumpkin. More pumpkin and nutmeg coming out on the flavor of this beer. Finishes with some chocolate and roasted malts on the finish. Pleasantly surprised.

Bomber. Poured medium brown with a short, well-retained tan head. The aroma picked up competing, yet complementary vanilla, pumpkin, and chocolate notes with accents of nutmeg and cinnamon.. warmth brought out licorice to supplant some of the chocolate.. really nice! The flavor found tangy, well-roasted black malts and dark chocolate at the core, with vanilla taking over from there.. pumpkin meat and nutmeg accented well.. finished dry and very roasty along with more vanilla.. could’ve been an "8", but the malt lost some definition as the drink progressed. Medium-bodied, dry, and very roasty as mentioned on the palate.. the vanilla gave a savory component, and wasn’t really sweet.. overall this worked well, and is something I’d gladly drink again.

Bottle with Keith, Simon, and Kev. Pours a dark purple color with medium head. Aromas of pumpkin, chocolate, pumpkin guts, squash, vanilla beans. Taste is a rich chocolate pumpkin soaked experience with gingerbread, pumpernickel, cloves, cinnamon. Awesome pumpkin porter, if it was aged in bourbon barrels, it would be a homerun. Next year?
