COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
OG: 1.003 FG: 1.05 ABW: %4.9 Malt: Gambrinus Pilsner Hops: Cascade Yeast: Fuji

Continuing the theme of the Simple Ale, Simply Summer uses only four ingredients. Fermented warm, this ale is super dry with spicy yeast notes. Carbonated to levels found commonly in lagers and wiezens, this refreshing ale is prefect for sunshine, goat cheese and freshly grilled treats. Each barrel has one pound of Cascade hops boiled for 90 minutes to give it the classic pine-like snappiness famous in the Northwest. It’s a classic bone-dry farmhouse ale.

Bottle:   Pale straw, hazy, large foamy white head, fairly decent lacing.   Funky basement aroma, almost like an old shop or garage... bits of barnishness.   Really really musty this is.   Getting really stale air on the tongue, basement, old straw funk, slightly earthy, a little whacky and very unconventional.   Lots of flavors, but the stale air, almost like air out of a bike tire, is very distracting.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A little airy.   Lingering bike tire air... does have a barnish/basement quality, and certainly more flavorful than other examples, but that stale air just detracts too much for me.   Subtract that and you would have a decent brew.   Could stand to be a bit drier too.   A little too far off normal for me, that is if that stale air is intended.   Perhaps its the Saki yeast?

Sampled last summer. 22oz from FTB. Pale gold pour. Super light nose with minor hints at funk and grass. Lemony wheat filled flavor that’s incredibly light all across the board. Fairly carbonated. Not my favorite.

Ginger-ale colored with mild carbonation and big bubbled partial head. Intensely phenolic yeastiness, in fact, nose-blisteringly so. Also farmouse and wheaty essence. Perhaps coriander and cumin as well. While I can almost get my olfactory senses around the aromas, the flavor is another story. This brew wreaks havoc on my palate. Tannic, bitter-sour spicyness. A diffuse pepperyness throughout. Harsh cumin and coriander flavors, powdery. Like an herbal elixir that is thick with too many herbs. Medicinal farmhouse finish. Blech.

22 oz. bottle purchased from the brewery. Awesome brewery, by the way. Hazy yellow, with a slight orange hue, appearance. The head is thin and wispy. A little dough, lemon, lemongrass, citrus, sugar, and yeast. The beer has nice pungent aroma. Wow, this sucker is the driest beer that I’ve ever had. It leaves an interesting bitterness on the tongue, and I think that dryness helps the bitterness. At first, I get lemon, a little spicy ginger, sugar, and yeast, and then that dry, bitter flavor sets in. This beer is very interesting. It’s quite good. I should have purchased more bottles to see how this will develop over time. Fairly interesting and good.

Bottle thanks to Ben, shared with others. Poured a pale gold with a white head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was quite funky with spice and some light citrus underlying. Flavor was similar with a bit too much spice and was full of funk as well. There was some citrus and floral notes but they were a bit overwhelmed.

Bomber; hazy straw gold with fluffy white head; light spice on the nose with lemons, grass, wheat and a similar spice from the saki yeast: light lemons with a mold earthy and dry fruit mix; pepper, orange peel and dry lemons; crisp, dry finish; at first it works much better here than in the bottle of solar trans I just had; a little too dry and chalky though and not in the mold of any BdG I’ve had; way more medicinal and raw the more I drink; amazingly dry
