3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bvc (1004) - Kenmore, USA - MAY 6, 2010
Growler shared by scrizzz, thanks man. Full body looking hazed caramel golden, with small head and not very high head retention. Big Belgian ester notes on the nose. Caramel, light apple, big banana, light pepper. Sweet bready caramel, fruity esters, picking up ginger bread, sweet peppery notes. Reminds me of the simple ale a bit with more full body and flavors. Very enjoyable and dig the big Belgian nose with ginger flavors.

Banana bread, sweet dry and spicy, pineapples and oranges, a little alcohol spice/heat pokes through. Smooth but light carbonation with a light peppery bitterness on the finish.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2010 Draft. It was very hard to assign a category to this beer. This poured a densely hazed orange with very little head on it. I tried this right after it was kegged and apparently it hadn’t had any time to settle yet. I rather liked the effect in a tapered glass. This has toasty and crackery flavors from the rye and wheat and a lightly spicy taste. Apparently this was brewed with saffron, and the flavor is there if you look for is not readily evident. Fruity esther notes are very evident around the mid palate, and this finishes with complexly citrusy american hops. Has light pineapple notes like the Simple does. As with all of Epic’s beers, it is overall on the drier side. Low carbonation on the body, not a super dense beer but full feeling. Has light burn of alcohol as it finishes. Complex and hard to describe.
