3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 BrewDad (3700) - Olympia, USA - JUN 3, 2011
22oz Bottle – 99 Bottles – Federal Way, WA
Dark amber in color, slight haze with a thin head. ark Black in color, clear with a thin tan head. This has an interesting pepper aroma then leads to a slight phenols in the aroma and flavor. The beer is very drinkable and with a plate of special cheese and fruit this was a tasty added treat. Very interesting beers here at Epic need to be sure and pair these bees with food every time.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 5000 (4106) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 7, 2011
Bottle:   Deep caramel, moderate frothy off-white head, fairly nice lacing.   Combination peppercorn (sweetish even) and musty basement notes, likely the yeast.   A little tart up front, minor sweetness in the back.   Not as peppery as the nose suggested.   Backside kinda actualy get somewhat sour.   Fairly dry.   Hard to describe this one as its very different.   Otherwise has this funky breadiness to it.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finish can best be described as "tangy".   Meh...
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bhensonb (7585) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 22, 2011
Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours pretty dark brown with a creamy tan head. Smells of light veg hop, but my nose burns a bit in the after sniff. Med body. It’s sweet, and veg, and a little peppery. Maybe more than a litle peppery. The pepper spice tends to offset the sugar sweet. Sort goes cola then not cola. But pepper in a moderate way is ever present. With time it seems the sugar isn’t so noticeable. Pretty interesting stuff.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 after4ever (4500) - Brier, Washington, USA - MAR 30, 2011
22. Wish I could say this was a namesake beer for me, but I’ll have to settle for enjoying it in the glass. No notes online or on the label about who the guy is. Suffice it to say I won’t be initiating too many conversations about this, lest people I think I am creepy ("Soooo...have you had the Tom? Heh heh heh."). Pours a murky and nearly opaque dark brown with a dense and creamy tan head that doesn’t stick around too awfully long. Intermittent stringy lace. Big phenolic sweet peppercorn nose, kind of a mix of green and pink peppercorn aromatics, a little on the fruity side. These notes are bolstered by what have to be similar phenolic contributions from the yeast. That would be probably be a sake yeast. And it would probably be a sake yeast doing things it never dreamed it would do. Doing them at temperatures it won’t be telling its mother about. Not unless it’s under oath in court. This is the hardcore underground for yeasties who don’t settle for a vanilla lifestyle. Yeah, so, anyway--phenolic notes and peppercorns on the nose, sweetened with some brown sugar. Creamy medium body with subdued carb. Dense brown sugar and sweet cherry-ish peppercorn qualities on the mid-palate, along with that vaguely citric hot sake tang. Huh huh huh. You said "sake tang."
