Inspired by west Coast IPA’s on a trip to San Diego for the World Beer Cup and a part of an IPA showdown with Hallertau Brewery . Only 1000 litres of this insane hop joy have been created. The rumour has started that Epic Armageddon IPA is "the sole reason there is a global hop shortage".

Bottle from Systembolaget, Malmö in Tunderup. Pours a clear golden with a white head. Bitter with a light sweetness. Lots of sprucy hops aromas with some grape fruit. Also hints of grains and alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Soft carbonation. Dry finish. I would like to try a fresher sample.

Flaska från SB. Doftar mycket fint av humlen med citrus och tallbarrstoner. Klar bärnsten med ganska lite skum, fin men lite trist kanske. Mycket bra smak med en fin beska som dröjer sig kvar. En IPA som den ska vara.

A bit pale amber body that’s clear and sports an off-white head that leaves a good amount of foamy residue on my glass. Strong aroma of overripe tropical fruits and overripe red berries, particularly strawberries, and a nice malty back with lots of caramel. What more can I say, this is how a DIPA should smell like! The flavours are even better, they are very strong and has splendid notes of overripe tropical fruits, caramel and hints of burnt sugar, spices in the back and pine in the long-lasting, heavy bitter and moderate dry finish. Light to moderate sweet initial taste. Medium body, oily texture, moderate carbonation. An... wait for it... wait for it... epic brew!

Epic is the right word for this. This is the best thing to come out of New Zealand since Neil and Tim Finn. A bombardment of all the right flavours, it tickles all the way from the tip of my tongue to the sides of my throat and almost into my ears. It’s so full of flavour you’re almost tempted to chew it. I buy it whenever I go to Sweden, alas, it is not available in Norway.

330 ml Bottle @ Naamat
Light orange clear beer with a big white head leaving lacing. Aroma and flavor have sweet caramel, fruits and pine. Has a quite hefty amount of bitterness on the finish leaving an aftertaste of stinging sweetness and pines. Palate is little fuller than medium, sticky and piney stinging with quite strong carbonation. Too much caramel sweetness, too little fruity freshness. BBE was 4 months ahead, maybe not fresh enough?

Bottle. It’s a clear, golden beer topped by a small, dense, off-white to light beige head. The aroma has pine cones, grapefruit, orange zest, some caramel maltyness and a little touch of alcohol. It’s full-bodied and with a pleasant carbonation level. A nice bitterness in the flavor, both initally and in the end. Pine cones, resins and orange zest. Lasting bitter finish. A pretty nice IPA, but I should probably have had it fresh. 140420

Solid, if unexceptional. All the right notes are there. But there’s nothing unique here that you haven’t had in a solid IPA elsewhere.
