COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first sip of this brilliant, red-brown beer reveals a robust mouth feel and complex flavors including raisin, dark bread, some sherry flavors sure to increase with age, resin hops, a touch of old barrel. With the finish comes the aroma and flavor of Columbus hops in your mouth, being followed by the alcohol warmth that can be felt down your throat.

Bottle, I got this as part of a trade back in April 2011. Held onto it for a bit to let it mature. It was good, poured a nice cloudy brown. Very sweet, brown sugar, candy flavors. Smooth, easy to drink, not too boozy, though I’m feeling it after the fact.

Moderately dark color, clear. Some hop notes to the aroma but the overwhelmingly character is malty, with bread and caramel. It builds in sweetness to the finish; appropriate for a barley wine, though those looking for a DIPA on steroids wouldn’t care for it as much. Decent. (bottle at the Ale Jail backyard beer festival, 2012)

Bottle. Pours a very hazy dark amber color with a moderate head to it. Very alcohol laden aroma, like a stronger mixed drink. Tastes like it is barrel-aged. Really interesting brew.

22oz bottle from Dutch’s Bar & Bottle Shop in Cincinnati, OH. Release #5, 10.5% ABV. Pours a cloudy orange-amber colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is fairly sweet, but well hopped with lots of resiny, pineapple and candied grapefruit hops. A definite sherry essence with some raisin dark fruits, esters, florals, and a light breadiness to a medium sweet caramel. Flavor is similar. Sweet caramels up front with some fairly bitter and resiny, pineapple and grapefruit florals and grass. Slightly boozy sherry note throughout, a touch of bread, and a light dark fruit note. Finishes sweet, but bitter and dry with a light wood note to the big, resiny hops. Lengthy aftertaste with some alcohol warmth following a medium, creamy body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a really nice barley wine. Sweet, but not cloying and plenty of fresh, resiny hops to balance. Nice sherry and dark fruit note with a pleasant alcohol warmth that never gets too boozy. Good one.

A - Pours a cloudy amber-brown color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of sweet caramel and caramelized malts with some brown sugar with a bit of booze. T - Starts off with a mix of sweet caramel malts and caramelized sugars with some brown sugar. Through the middle, some grapefruit and pineapple hops come through with some bitterness. The finish is a mix of sweet caramel malts and grapefruit hops and bitterness with some brown sugar and a bit of booze. M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet, bitter, and warming finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice malt and hop balance with good hop bitterness and body to balance.

Poured from 750mL bottle into wine glass. Pours hazy orange amber with a thin head but lots of lacing. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, with a hint of flowery hops. Flavors of malt and sugar dominate with some florals and a touch of bitter hops. Low carbonation and creamy mouthfeel with a slightly bitter and boozy finish. My first barely wine review. --- Cheers

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/18/12, Release #2

Aroma: This one has a sweet nose with lots of caramel, some toasted malts, and a little booze
Appearance: It pours a dark orange-brown color with a small head and some spotty lacing
Flavor: Tastes pretty sweet, heavy on malts, a little brown sugar, plus a good bit of bozzy flavor
Palate: The body is medium-full, with a slightly cloyingness to the feel, and a good amouth of heat
Overall Impression: This is a decent Barley Wine, but it is quite sweet, almost to the point of being cloying. I would have liked a little more balance. The 10.1% isn’t really all that well-hidden either. I gave this one a couple of months, but maybe it could have used a little longer then that to develop.

Poured a deep, murky amber, with a small tan head. Smell is figs, brown sugar, vanilla, grass, and a hint of alcohol. Taste starts out sweet with hints of figs, caramel, and vanilla, smooth through the middle, with a light bitter finish. Also, picking up hints of bourbon and grassy hops. Alcohol is hidden very well and the mouthfeel is creamy, with moderate carbonation. Overall, a good barley wine and definitely more on the American side, style wise.

Pours a dark and dim amber/copper. Swelling off-white head, good looking lacing right off the bat. I smell all sorts of OG... big sweetness. Some booze surfaces immediately, huge malts dominate this thing. Some honey notes, but the aroma doesn’t stray far from the massive malt presence. For how imposing the nose is, the taste is actually pretty dull, and I poured it room temp. It reminds me of a good barleywine on mute. The booze is still full strength though, leaving this one a bit out of whack. I probably won’t revisit this one. Not a fail by any means, they just need to beef this one up a bit.

Bottle. Pours reddish chestnut brown with tan head. Nose/taste of citrus, caramel, bready malt, toffee and pine. Semi sweet mouth feel with lots of citrus and caramel malts - like a heavily malty double IPA. Finishes with some pine and resin along with a touch of warming alcohol. Good mouth feel.
