4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Thick mouthfeel, notes of alcohol and dark caramel, hops come in a little too quickly and strong but don’t subtract from the wonder.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
651 ml. bottle.Release #16. 10.2% ABV. SLC# 1190. Pours a medium, well retained, ivory head, with slight lacing, over a clear, dark amber (SRM 15) body......nose is toffee/caramel, heavy dried fruit, with plum raisin, light fig, light spice, cereal, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is sweet malts with notes of brown sugar, dried fruits, fig, raisin, plum, leading to slight hop notes, balance heavily to the malts........mouth feel, chewy body, sticky, heavy alcohol, light carbonation. This is a rich, sweet, complex beer, that is quite low in hop aroma and flavors with the malts utterly dominating. As such it is more English than American in style. BJCP 8/3/16/5/8

Sample at the Winking Lizard Epic Tap Takeover on 03/14/2015. This beer pours a hazy mahogany-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, caramel and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops and dark fruit. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Barley wine bottle share on 1/31, batch #14. More hoppy than other barley wines, not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of barley sweetness, ruby brown pour, some sticky lacing. A little flat on the finish, but really really good overall.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 22. The beer looked thick. Had some certifiable floaties. Aroma was sweet and hoppy. Flavor had a sweet start, malty middle and smooth finish. Sweet flavors were brown sugar and caramel. Great evenly balanced beer.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a lovely deep mahogany. The nose on this is incredible. Lots of dark dried fruit and molasses. Notes of vanilla and spice too. Too bad the flavors fall flat. Maybe some sweetness.. A boozy finish... But no complexity.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle, from Dutch’s. Release #14, 10.4% ABV, den# 1294. Apparently this was bottled 9/30/13, according to the details on Epic’s website. Pours a completely hazy brown / red color. Kind of darker brick color. Thin ring of off-white head. Leaves some loose ropes of lace. Second pour yields much nice appearance, with better head, and thicker lace. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, light carbonation. Slick, oily texture to the finish. Very interesting malt profile. Darker grains, something like rye, kind of spicy, pretty toasty breadiness. Big piney resiny hop. Big earthiness. Bigger bitter taste. Lighter sweet taste. Some light alcohol in the finish after each sip. Pretty tasty hoppy bitter assertive barleywine. The c-hop gives it a nice edge. Nice taste & flavor. Very nice to enjoy with my dinner. A 3.9 on it’s own (a score which had been climbing on it’s own before I entered the kitchen), like a 4.2+ when used for washing down my sandwich. Any hint of alcohol or bite dissapears when paired with a hearty meal, and suddenly it turns from a sipper to an easy-drinker. Finishing off the last half of the bomber in between bites of my dinner was magical. Will revisit this again someday, and in the same fashion.
