COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first sip of this brilliant, red-brown beer reveals a robust mouth feel and complex flavors including raisin, dark bread, some sherry flavors sure to increase with age, resin hops, a touch of old barrel. With the finish comes the aroma and flavor of Columbus hops in your mouth, being followed by the alcohol warmth that can be felt down your throat.

Thick mouthfeel, notes of alcohol and dark caramel, hops come in a little too quickly and strong but don’t subtract from the wonder.

Pours a shiny copper penny color with a one finger frothy head that settles after a while to a fluffy ring. Malty sweet aromas with a touch of pine. Full nectar with creamy residual effers. This is not a decadent BW, rather a balanced sweetness to some piny hop acid. I like the creamy texture and ease of use. This is a moderate specimen with no offensive nuances and pretty basic in nature but dangerously drinkable. At 10.1% abv this one hides it well.

Peanut hull, pencil shaving nose with caramel and pine accents. Clear rust, thin yellow head, decent lacing. Cherry and orange peel dominated flavor. Definite woody character withg boysenberries. Walnuts and resinous pine finish. Medium body and easy carbonation. Damn, that’s a fine barleywine.

Sweet/brown sugar, light caramel, grainy malt. Good balance of different malt flavors, and also a nice balance with citrus hops--which is secondary to the malt, but substantial. Firm bitterness; some alcohol flavor, but not much.

22oz Bottle, Release #1: Pours a clear deep copper amber with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet toasty caramel nose with some light fruity notes and lots of fresh citrusy hops. Starts with good fullness and sweet light caramel malt with a good balance of fresh hop flavor and bitterness and some light fruity complexity before a slight drier and warming bittersweet finish. True to style and should age well.

This was release number 1. From the 22-oz bottle it poured a red brown color with a fat tan head and a lot of lacing The nose is roasted malta and ripe fruit .Medium body, lots of alcohol, and powerful mourhfeel. The flavor is very intense with lots of rich malt flavors balanced with flavorful hops. The finish showed a lot of fruit and some bitterness. This one appeared to have some age on it and was simply excellent.

Release #1 bottle from Whole Foods Market P Street, which means I’ve had it several months. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toffee malts, brown sugar, citrus hops and faint nutty notes. The taste is brown sugar, toffee, citrus, molasses, bitter finish and faint alcohol warmth. Medium-full bodied. Nice.

Pours a dark brown dirty muddy murky barley wine love from the gods color with a sticky off white to light brown head. Aroma is dark sugars, yeasts, spices, old hops, raisins, bread, oak. Flavor is faded hops, oak, raisins, brown sugar, spices with a little booze in the finish. Complex, elegant, and tasty brew. yum!

Picked up while in Durham, 3/2012. A nice surprise, I hadn’t had a good showing from an American-style barleywine for a bit and this reminded me why I like them. Poured a clear copper color with a thin white head. Very nice rich aroma of earthy hops with a mild sting of alcohol. The taste was robust, with a healthy hop dose over a clean malt backbone. Sturdy and rich.
