4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has wood, citrus, pine, some malty tones. Hazy, copper coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is moderate bitter, has nice citric hoppiness, some oak, light winey tones. Quite nice. Subtle even.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden pour with a thick off-white head. Piney, oaky aroma with a little grapefruit. Taste is mostly malt, a little dried fruit, and very little grapefruity bitterness.Itís not bad, but much prefer their other IPAs

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours clear golden yellow. Malty sweet aroma with a less hoppy nose than anticipated, slightly apricoty though. Flavour was predominantly malt but with a hoppy grapefruit aftertaste. I suppose the barrel age blunts the intensity of the hops. Moderate body and smooth carbonation. Good, but I prefer some of their other IPA's.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Vanilla and oak aroma with light pine. Oak and grapefruit flavor with pine. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine linger with oak. A little messy between hops and oak.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted @ Grain Cru - Roll Out the Barrels, Belgian Beer Cafť, Perth.
Deep golden amber and just shy of bright with very fine, very sparse carbonation. Head nothing more than a thin ring on the meniscus. Dominant grapefruit on the nose with inklings of plummy, savoury and spiced fruitcake, honey, vanillin and wood. The hops have faded somewhat in the mouth, replaced by notes of oak, woody honey and tangy lemon with bitter grapefruit and low, roughage hop leaves in back and into the pinewood swallow. Just a whimper of fruitcake in the aftertaste also. The bitterness not as well retained. The rose water of the Armageddon IPA still in play. The body is solid and rounded with an oily texture. The carbonation low. There is a sharp tartness to it, where I had actually expected smoothness and harmony of flavour. Didnít enjoy this one as much as I had anticipated. 4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A - Pours a clear golden-orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, citrus, and floral hops with some oak, vanilla, and sweet caramel malts.
T - Starts off with a mix of grapefruit, passion fruit, and other tropical hops with some bitterness, sweet caramel malts, and some vanilla. Through the middle, the floral and lightly spicy hops come through with some more bitterness and some oak and some biscuit malts. The finish is a mix of tropical and floral hops with some bitterness, oak, and sweet bready malts.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry, bitter, and lightly warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. The barrel flavor comes through nicely and the base IPA is strong enough to balance things out nicely.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Was a good beer. The influence of the barrel ageing was conspicuous, however, it is not as good as their normal IPA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A-- Poured a hazy, golden honey straw color. Almost clear, just slightly hazy. Two finger bright white head at had good staying power before finally receding to white film and leaving a ring of soapy lacing at the base. Very nice. Swirled it a few times and got the same results each time.
S-- Oak, vanilla, Pine, Grapefruit and lemon sorbet. Very well melded together. Oak and Vanilla at first, then the pine, grapefruit and finishes with the sorbet. Great nose.
T-- Quite different. Fresh oak and lemon meet up to make, Pledge?? Very fresh oak and mixes with grapefruit and pine. Oak replaces the bitterness and changes the beer to a heavy wooded lemon.
M-- Carbonation is medium and beer is medium heavy due to amount of oak and how it just changes the flavors. Makes it sort of a hard, bitter, vanilla oaked lemon in the feel. Just far more obvious in the mouth than the taste. Slightly oily and slick but finishes dry with just a touch of lemon bitterness and then more oak. Loses a lot of the good qualities that Armageddon has in the mouth as the barrel radically changes the beer
O-- Think of the barrel as an amplifier to the base beer. The barrel just makes the hops bigger and more powerful. Classic flavors like grapefruit and Pine were changed to hard, heavy lemon with touches of sweetness and sourness.
Only issue is the barrel does kill the base beer and the base beer is an A beer. I get this is an experiment and the stuff of 8 weeks in a barrel to simulate a trip to India. All in all though it works and is true to style. It is work to drink fresh as the Oak does have a lot of pull in this beer.
