4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (4527) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 16, 2013
22 oz. bottle from Root Cellar. Release #1. Pours a deep, dark brown, though not totally opaque, with minimal head. Darker than the Imperial Stout. Aroma of rich coffee, charred oak, cocoa nibs, and subtle bourbon. The bourbon is subtle in the flavor, too, as it seems to pick up more of the oak than the bourbon, but coffee is what leads the way. Some cocoa nibs and vanilla, as well. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, roasty mouthfeel. Improvement on the regular Imperial Stout, and a nice barrel treatment.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Johnsense (467) - - JUN 1, 2013
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2013 Release #3 - almost 2 years on this bottle. Black pour, small mocha head that didn’t lace. lower carbonation. Big barrel aroma, but as this warmed got a lot of vanilla, fresh ground coffee, molasses. Taste was similar - Whiskey and coffee at the forefront with neither overpowering, as this warmed vanilla, roasted malt, dark toffee, dark chocolate all coming through. Very little alcohol detected except for a bit of heat at the end. Full body, slick mouthfeel. Deadly sipper while watching the rain fall.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 wedgie9 (1594) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Tasted on 5/8/13 from a capped 650mL bomber bottle, thanks to Jonathan for sharing this one. Pours a very thick, nearly black, dark brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is dominated by dark chocolate and coffee, with plenty of general roast, and just a light touch of maple whiskey lingering. The flavor is pretty much the same with some added molasses, and the alcohol hidden nicely, with the dark chocolate and coffee really dominating. The body is very full with just under average carbonation and a long dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, and touch of maple finish.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 5000 (5000) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle:   Pours black, thin to moderate light beige head, spotty lacing.   Strong coffee aroma, slightly
roasty, a bit of Whiskey and cocoa nibs.   Rich roastiness on the tongue, lots of cocoa and coffee, fresh coffee.
Seems to have a smidgen of Whiskey, but the coffee is really strong and really fresh.   Very smooth on the tongue, not
too big in body.   The alcohol is well hidden, comes across as slightly warming.   Very smooth without being heavy,
lots of coffee, cocoa, and roastiness.   This is really well put together, and one that I would love to have again.
Most Imperial Stouts coming in 22oz bottles are enough for me, but I wouldn’t mind another after this one.   Tee hee

Bottle, Release #7. The pour is a dark brown with a rich caramel head. The aroma is strong with coffee, some chocolate, and a hint of bourbon and some smoke. The taste has bourbon upfront, coffee throughout, but it really kicks in in the aftertaste. A very good beer.
