Latest release. Pours midnight black, no head at all. Nose is huge espresso bean followed by dark chocolate and choclate syrup with roasted, almost burnt maltiness. Taste is pretty boozy from start to finish, Tons of chocolate and burnt coffee. Finish is big and chocolatey. No bourbon or vanilla at all which is a surprise. Overall, this beer is too burnt to really enjoy

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2013 (Release # 10) Aromas of espresso, dark chocolate, chickory, and potting soil. Black with moderately lasting, tan head foam. Strong, dry, and roasty. Full bodied, sticky, carbonation is average, and finishes with strong, lingering roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors, and with some spicy, herbaceous flavors afterward.

"Are you kidding me? Are you f-n kidding me? This beer is the most epic beer of all beers. A pitch black color with a tan head. The aroma is chocolate, espresso, caramel, and vanilla. The flavor is perfectly balanced with some german chocolate cake, espresso, coffee, and caramel. The aftertaste is somewhat sweet but the bitterness from the coffee balances everything"

Pours like an oil can. Thick and black and syrupy looking with a small brown head. The aroma is strong espresso. It smells like coffee beans to me. The taste is COFFEE. Thereís also a good amount of alcohol going on here. The coffee is extreme but not over the top. Iím not usually a fan of java / coffee stouts but this is pretty well balanced. A good beer that Iím glad I tried but a bit too much coffee for my taste.

Bottle pours thick black with think brown head. Aroma huge cocoa with a little roast and coffee. Taste dominated initially by roast and char this fades as it warms to a nice balance of caramel, bourbon, roast and cocoa. Finish mild roast. Palate thick without being syrupy or sticky.

Nice imperial stout, improves as it warms, reminds me some of KBS with more roast.

Release #10. Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber. Pours inky black with just a small dark tan head that fades to a ring around the side of the glass. Pretty decent lacing considering the abv. Coffee is quite prominent in the aroma with hints of dark chocolate. Lots of roasted malt that seems slightly burnt. There is vanilla and just the slightest hint of whiskey buried way in the background. The coffee carries big time into the flavor mixed nicely with cocoa creating almost a mocha character. Lots and lots of heavily roasted malt that borders on being a bit acrid and charred. There is still just a little bourbon in the background that I wish was a little more prominent. Nice vanilla and caramel touches too. The alcohol is well hidden with just a slight warmth in the back of the throat with a creamy and just slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, a very tasty imperial stout but one that is not quite Earth-shattering. I donít know if I would go out of my way to pick this up but if you do come across it, it is worth drinking.

Release #10. 11.4% abv. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma of some oak, chocolate, and loads of coffee. Sweet but with the perfect bitterness to balance it out. Lots of roasted coffee lingering after the burst of chocolate. Thick and chewey. Prickly carbonation. I do get some oak from this, but little if any bourbon tones. Maybe the bitterness is just balancing these well? In any case, this is one of the best impyís Iíve had. Itíll keep ya warm for sure. Very nice.

Aroma - Strong coffee aroma! Aroma of wet oak, or wood grilling planks. Probably due to the whiskey barrel aging. You. Can smell this aroma from a close distance. Slight sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma. Hint of malt and booze. Taste - Taste of roasted coffee and chocolate as well as oak. Taste of sweet malt and booze. Overall- Great! Beer. I haver never had a stout like this.
