8th April 2014
Tasting at Bruceís Pad.Batch #7. Thanks to Colin. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is soft and airy. Light fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts with light oaky sweetness. Earthy coffee and a touch of vanilla. Mild tangy dark fruits underneath. Whisper of toffee before a smooth dry finish. Nice one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber poured into a tulip. Very dark with a large coffee/tan head. Aroma is coffee bourbon and vanilla. Did not get much bourbon or chocolate. Mouthfeel is very thin with low carbonation. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee, bitter malts and a slight char/barrel finish. The bourbon is well hidden and this is very well balanced. Glad I gave this a shot.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Leeís Discount Liquors - E. Flamingo Las Vegas. Nose is coffee, chocolate, vanilla, lightly smoky, and pecans. Black with a medium, lightly lacing cinnamon tan head. flavor is lots of vanilla, expresso, chocolate, a tiny hint of bourbon in the background, and a light dark chocolatey bitterness in the finish. Not near as much bourbon as I expected but tons of vanillin. Nicely balanced and very flavorful.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Release #5. Thick black viscous pour, nice tan head, yup its rather dark looking. Aroma, lots and lots coffee, roasted malts, some subtle sweetness, a bit nutty. Taste, thick mouthfeel, lots of coffee up front, but it settles down quick, towards the middle some chocolate sweetness a bit or roasted malts, some oak and some slight char from the barrel treatment, very well balanced, this is my kind of beer, love coffee, love imperial stouts...love this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours motor oil black and has a nose of whiskey and charred barrel. Flavor is like chewing on a chunk of charcoal that has been soaked in high proof whiskey. It has the mouthfeel of a porcupine as it burns and bristles its way down the gullet, finishing in a dark fruit and soy stickiness. Too much for me, but I can appreciate the craftsmanship.

Had a glass on tap as part of a flight at Ashleyís. Wow, remarkably balanced for such a massive beer. Delicious, tons of coffee flavor, good refreshing bite with very little booze.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber @ home. Stunning appearance: opaque pitch black color, full sized creamy medium to dark brown head that lasts for a decent while and leaves good lacing. Aroma has malts, lightly dark malts, roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, bourbon and slightly liquor. Taste malts, roasted malts, coffee, light to moderately cocoa, superbly bitter, bourbon in the back but always there, and a superb roasty bitterness with a touch of warming alcohol in the finish. Medium to full body, oily texture, perfect carbonation. Wow this is class. Absolutely superb beer. Oh boy am I gonna enjoy this bottle. Damn!

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Purchased at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed at home after work on a late March night. I really should have shared this bottle with friends, because upon first taste itís a beer that should be shared, and itís also very potent. Release #27, 11.5% ABV. Appearance is a thick, rich black with a moderate off white head that rims around the glass. Aroma of extremely rich espresso notes, cacao nibs, light lactose, chocolate, smoke, oak, light bourbon, just an epic aroma with a ton going on. Taste is one of those beers where you say "wow" upon first sip. Itís not overpowering but is powerful with its ingredients. Coffee notes are fantastic and add to the bitterness, light burning going down from the high ABV, smoke makes itself known a bit more, also a little bit of vanilla with a great sweetness and light syrup. This is one of the best out there, and gives Dark Lord a run for its money (at half the price, at least). Really happy that I tried this one out, now itís time to get sloshed on a work night!
