4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours black as well the black ink on the bottle. Aroma is straight coffee grinds. Has that bitter coffee taste upfront with a hint of chocolate at the end. Leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2014 Release 18, 12% ABV. Pours dark brown with light brown head, good retention and a little lacing. Aroma is dark coffee, heavily roasted, cocoa nibs. Flavor is big coffee up front, dark, roasted and bitter, toffee and caramel, and cocoa with a bitter, roasted, mild barrel/whisky finish. Nice, rich, roasted coffee character. Gets a bit boozier as it warms. Soft carbonation, medium-full body, and smooth texture. A good coffee imperial stout.

Bottle (22 oz). Release #15. From a surprise box sent by kbudd19, thanks a lot! Pitch black with a medium beige head and some lacing. Aroma is intense with lots of coffee, roasted malt, and bourbon along caramel, vanilla, alcohol, chocolate and oak. Taste is moderately sweet (not cloying) and moderately to heavily roasted with bourbon, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, wood and a roasted bitter finish. Warming alcohol. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Mouthfeel is viscous and sirupy, but also quite fluffy. A tad harsh, but quite complex and really tasty. Amazing sipper!

Iíd been curious about this brew for awhile. Very understated aroma, black as hell. Iíd compare this to Bourbon County, but bitter and woodier. Bourbon is not too prominant. Great brew all around.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Release #17, 12.0%. 22 oz bottle, Kroger on Bridge St in Dublin; $8.99 I think. Very dark black but not quite fully opaque; one-finger light tan head dissipates quickly into a small ring and an extremely thin, sparse covering; virtually no lacing. First aroma is coffee and chocolate. But look! Itís not that typical overly bitter, overly roasty coffee thing that big stouts do! Hallelujah! It smells like REAL coffee, only colder. Some breathing and warming reveals more subtle aroma notes of oak and bourbon. In terms of flavor, very heavily chocolate, but again, REAL coffee. The roast level is spectacularly low for the magnitude of this beer, and itís really great to see such a coffee-heavy beer simultaneously be a little more subdued while itís kicking you in the mouth. The finish is vanilla, chocolate, lighter bitterness, and even lighter bourbon. If I didnít know better, I would absolutely not guess this was anything close to 12%; I honestly donít detect alcohol in this at all, but having drank half the bottle I can feel that itís there. Medium-full to full body, almost silky but just a tad too bubbly to say that. Really nice.

Bottle, Release #13, enjoyed with friends on New Yearís Eve. Pours black with a small bubbly head that quickly fades away. Aroma is big and intense. Cocoa, fresh, lightly roasted coffee, oak, vanilla, and light bourbon. Love the taste. Great balance of coffee, cocoa, and bourbon barrel. Light cereal sweetness at first and finish moderately bitter. Light booziness. Alcohol is hidden at first but becomes slightly noticeable when it warms. Thin to medium body. Really good BB stout with a few minor flaws.
