Lots of chocolate and coffeeflavor and aroma up front. Followed by whiskey heat. A good beer that would be improved by some cellaring.

Thx to Jason for sharing. Jet black viscous pour. Thin beige head and a little lace. Aroma is coffee and whiskey. Oily mouth-feel. Roast, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. A bit of bourbon/whiskey (whatever) on the back end. Pleasantly surprised by this

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to tulip glass. Aroma has tons of coffee with nice chocolate notes. Lots of roastiness as well. Definitely has a big boozy presence from the barrel. Deep black pour with a thin tan head. It has some nice vanilla characteristics to it as well. A heavy bodied beer with a oily mouthfeel. Has a slightly astringent boozy finish to it. Big Bad Baptist is a solid beer and another great offering from Epic.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft: Pours almost black with a small tan head. The aroma is dominated by cocoa and coffee. The taste takes the cocoa and adds the warmth of vanilla probably from the bourbon barrels. The finish is a bit astringent possibly due to the high alcohol content. The beer feels lighter tha I would expect and I would say the mouthfeel is medium. This is a good beer in a category with so many great beers, something I would have again but not search out.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The pour is black with a moderately full, dark tan, pillowy, frothy head which settles to a thin froth and leaves minimal, frothy lace. The nose is potent with plenty of rich dark chocolates, chocolate malt, sweet espresso, cedar, toasted oak, slight wisps of alcohol, and an herbal hop note. The flavor is equally as potent and rich; still rich dark chocolates all over, toasted oak, burnt caramel, herbal coffee, strongly roasted, and a faint sharp grapefruit note. The palate is less than full, velvety, thick, and less than lively. The finish is bitter and roasty, quite long, herbal, coffee, dry oak, and still some rich dark chocolates. The bourbon notes were minimal, but the oak rounding did accentuate the chocolate and coffee additions. The chocolate added richness while the coffee added bitterness and complexity. Everything all came together very well leaving a memorable, unique beer. The beer drank like a lower ABV beer but still had the intense flavors and aromas of a high ABV beer. The best from this brewery.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at the 2012 Cincinnati Brew-haha, labeled as the "Epic Breakfast Stout". A pretty-much-black-brown color, nice brown head. Good lace. Awesome, spiced strong Turkish coffee aroma. Lighter, crisp carbonation, long aftertaste. Good bitterness, nice smooth and creamy body. An excellent "breakfast stout".

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from the bottle into a taster glass.
Pours near black with a thin mocha head. Not too much in the way of lacing. The nose carries some really nice cocoa and whiskey. Really nice combination and well done here. A bit of vanilla and oak in the background. The flavor isnít quite as intense as the nose, but still pretty good. Mouthfeel has a bit of heat, and could be a bit thicker. Overall, really a pretty tasty brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle, release #3. Ebony with a creamy tan head. Nose is coffee bean, mocha, tobacco and earth; lightly burnt. Thick and verging on sludgy with a sharp buzz. Taste is coffee bean, chocolate, licorice, molasses, hay and smoke. Finishes hot with the bourbon finally appearing. Big flavors that donít really come together.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ The BeerMongers... Poured pitch black with a light tan head. Aroma of straight coffee, iced coffee, mocha coffee. Nice body, not too thick, not too thin. Loads of coffee flavors. Pressed coffee, cocoa, roast, hint of malt sweetness. Oak, wood-like and earthy. Mild bitterness and hoppiness. Big coffee finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Release #3, 11.4% ABV. Pours black with a short, brown head that ends up as a ring of foam. Big coffee notes on this, dark chocolate, roasted malt and vanilla. Taste is big coffee with strong vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and booze. Some toasted coconut way in the background as well. Body is medium-full with light carbonation and a thick, slightly syrupy feel. Ends with more chocolate covered coffee beans, espresso, vanilla and roasted malt notes. Nice!
