Coffee, chocolate, what's not to like? This is a very good stout. Aroma is of strong coffee, perhaps espresso. Reminds me if an iced coffee. Head is of medium thickness and dark tan. Lacing makes consistent rings all the way down my snifter glass. Would pair very nicely with chocolate cake, but was great with a pizza, too! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

651 ml. bottle. Release # 14. Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled beige head, with some lacing, over a black brown (SRM 40+) body.....nose is chocolate, coffee, cocoa, fig, plum, umami.....taste is light lactose type sweetness, with plum, fig, light soy, beef, whiskey, light vanilla, burnt coffee, chocolate, finishing with a soft bitterness......mouth feel light of medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds tingle and light acid. The mouth feel is very light for the style and would really benefit from some non fermentables in the malt bill. The barrel was done with a light hand, and added complexity without dominating. The coffee and chocolate layers were a bit over the top and dominated all the others, creating a sweet mocha bomb rather than a beer of great subtlety. BJCP 8/3/14/3/7

Release 23. Pours to a deep brown body with a deep brown head. The aroma is mocha. Lots of deep chocolate and coffee. The palate is rich but easy drinking. Not lingering.

Release #23 vintage 2013. Pours black. Medium creamy brown head, fairly lasting with lace. Aroma is loaded with coffee, dense coffee with cream and sugar, milk chocolate, cocoa, sweet roasted malty, just an awesome coffee character. Flavor still has coffee but not as overt, nice sweet whisky, clean roast, chocolate. Medium to full body. Creamy. Pleasant alcohol warmth. Not quite as complex as I would hope for but stilt very very good. Whiskey barrel character shows up more and more with each sip, especially in the finish, overall stays in the background. I love coffee beers and this is a great one..

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2013 On tap at Barrels & Bottles. Black appearance with a tan head. Strong coffee aroma with roasted malts, dark chocolate, oak and a touch of bourbon. Similar flavor, heavy on the coffee with light vanilla and hop bitterness. Incredible flavor that completely hides the alcohol. Fuck yeah. Update: I bought a bomber (release 14) and it was fucking awesome. 4.4

Release #13.

Bottle. Dark black pour with small khaki head. Didn’t taste much whiskey at all. Very nice and heavy coffee notes. Great body. Not what I was expecting but a very nice beer.
