Release #10. 11.4% abv. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma of some oak, chocolate, and loads of coffee. Sweet but with the perfect bitterness to balance it out. Lots of roasted coffee lingering after the burst of chocolate. Thick and chewey. Prickly carbonation. I do get some oak from this, but little if any bourbon tones. Maybe the bitterness is just balancing these well? In any case, this is one of the best impyís Iíve had. Itíll keep ya warm for sure. Very nice.

Aroma - Strong coffee aroma! Aroma of wet oak, or wood grilling planks. Probably due to the whiskey barrel aging. You. Can smell this aroma from a close distance. Slight sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma. Hint of malt and booze.
Taste - Taste of roasted coffee and chocolate as well as oak. Taste of sweet malt and booze.
Overall- Great! Beer. I haver never had a stout like this.

Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted barley and chocolate malts. Appears very very dark brown, black with a quarter inch deep dark brown head, Very sticky. Tastes of coffee,chocolate, dark roasty malts. Very thick syrupy mouth feel. I enjoyed this one a lot. Very nice long sipper for the cold months. the coffee give a little caffeine buzz. Mmm tasty

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2013 On tap at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange at the epic meet and greet as part of Kalamazoo beer week. Black pour into snifter. Dark brown head, cocoa colored. Strong sweet cocoa And strong cold brewed coffee scent, a little sweet malt. Thick, very full flavor. A little chalky mouth feel. Lots of roasted malt flavor, strong cocoa, sweet molasses. Sweet finish with just a tinge of bourbon/alcohol effervescence.

UPDATED: JUL 13, 2013 Release #10. Pungent aroma of green bell peppers and misc spicy peppers dominates the nose. WTF + yuck.
Thank god the taste isnít possessed. Dark, deeply roasted malt tastes nearly burnt. Bittersweet chocolate adds a grainy complexion. Sweetness in the middle, finishes with booze & chocolate. A decent stout if you ignore the smell. 2.2/5
Update: drinking the #9 now and itís a completely different beer. Huge, incredible coffee aroma gets a 9/10 from me. A tasty RIS that shares few similarities with the above review. Iím changing my rating accordingly.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with thin, fizzy tan head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, cocoa, oak, raisins, dates, and a touch of booze. Flavor is roast malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit esters with some light earthy hops; dry finish with the slightest hint of whiskey. Medium body and low carbonation.

Draught at Tadgís. Pitch black, with a pretty chocolate-milkshake head. Big, nasty nose of old coffee grounds. Just the aroma I hate from a coffee beer. Happily, though, the flavor is much nicer and more balanced. Rich chocolate, cafe au lait, berries. Nice sweetness with nice roast and the coffee doesnít stick out like a sore thumb. Good.

Aroma: dark chocolate followed by expresso. Appearance: dark, thick oil with small head. Taste: great balance of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. Palate: nice, thick beer. Overall: very solid beer. 22. Thanks, Shawn! Pours jet black with a dense and creamy burnt tan mousse atop. Big roasty coffee nose with lots of heavy cocoa presence. Creamy thick body with subdued carb. Roast, campfire, coffee, and cocoa on the mid palate. Very intensely flavorful, explosively powerful. Harmonious combinations. Great beer.

Release #9. A vigorous pour produces a good tan head on top of a dark body. Thereís lots of chocolate and coffee aromas, with some oats, licorice, ash, and molasses. The whiskey is there too but mild. Going down this is rather smooth for such a big beer. The body is creamy and slick with a slightly dry finish. Rich and chocolaty flavors mix with some barrel notes, coffee, and caramel. Again, the whiskey is there but not very noticeable. This finishes with a bit of roasty ashy notes. This is actually one of the better Imperial Stouts Iíve had in a while. I like how everything melds together without one dominating flavor but plenty of depth.
