4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a thick, murky black with a tan/brown head. Nose has some great cocoa and roasted coffee bean notes with a bourbon presence as well. I really love the nose on this one.
Starts with some nice cocoa notes. Itís a bit bitter on the tongue with some toasty coffee notes. Some bourbon notes present in the mouth as well. Finishes with some smooth coffee notes and a bit of booziness. Drinks incredibly smooth given the high alc content. This is far and away on of the best stouts Iíve had. Thereís a lot of complex flavors present, all working in sync to bring you a great beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I received this in a trade. I donít see any dates on this, but I do see that this is release #19 sitting at 10.4%.
This was poured into an imperial nonic pint glass and a snifter.
In both glasses, the appearance was a nice black color with some decent brown tinges roaming around the edges of the glass. There was a half fingered off white to tan foamy head that died within about thirty seconds. There was some decent lacing kinda roaming all over the place.
The aroma had a nice balance between the cocoa nibs to the coffee nibs. It smelled exceptionally well and then allowed just enough bourbon to come through but not over do anything.
The taste was sweet and roasty with a decent edge of alcohol "hotness" but that mainly just balances the whole thing. There was a decent bourbon-like sweet sticky aftertaste leading to a somewhat dry roasty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium to heavy, but doesnít show as much sipping aspects as I thought it would have. Iím not necessarily gulping this, but I find that I can drink this and enjoy it pretty well. The carbonation is exceptionally smooth.
Overall, this was a very well done American Double/Imperial Stout well worthy of having again.
