This looked great. Aroma had quite a bit of coffee, but the flavor was almost dominated by it, though it had some cocoa notes as well. Excellent mouthfeel, just too much coffee for me.

This is very nice! I wonder how this has developed during the aging. Would be cool to try a fresh bottle.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2013 Simply amazing. Cream with your coffee not to bitter not to sweet. Just pretty much perfect. Aroma is strong coffee. But balance is almost like drinking hot cocoa. Beyond amazing. Wow why isn’t this available where I live? Mouthfeel is creamy with a light bite at the end of a sip.

The whiskey and coffee flavors really come through. I wonder if the whiskey aging was too short, though, because other flavors and textures dominate. It is surprisingly dry and a bit ashy. Mouth feel is not nearly as luxurious as other barrel aged stouts, though the aroma is rather rich.

pours a horrid black beer .. . mild foam .. . lots of deep tar mostly .. . slick full mouthfeel, oily finish .. . intense beer for so early in the morning .. . Ahhh, yes! Cuban Bee!
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Onenote81 (1002) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - FEB 27, 2013
22oz bottle. Batch #8 (Sept. ’12 release). Poured into my brand new Hardywood snifter.
This beer just hesitantly glugs out of the bottle. This is an über thick coal black beer. Sits in the glass nicely. A small mocha head rests atop. Great spotty lace left behind, reminding me of what was. The aroma just smacks of fresh coffee. Big roasted coffee bean scent, chocolate powder, some booze quality. Really a nice inviting aroma.
Wonderful creamy feel that just envelopes the palate like a warm blanket. Subtle carbonation never forces itself. Smooth finish. This is one of the heavier beers I’ve had in quite some time. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Did I mention the coffee? This is one of the most potent coffee-forward beers I have ever had. This would wake up a dead man. Huge roasted flavors abound. Subtle sweetness of cocoa nibs and chocolate chips. Mild oak-like character gives it s a slight dry aftertaste. The whiskey isn’t as prominent as I expected. I had hoped for more of a bourbon kick, but with this batch, there is none. This sort of muddles out at the end, and just finishes with more coffee.
I’m not sure what I think of this. I guess I expected a more balanced barreled beer, but this is a one-trick pony: a straight up coffee beer. I normally like that style, but this just seemed too much overkill. I don’t think I’d revisit this batch again. Glad I tried it, but holy crap was this rich.

Draft at Tadg’s. This is an excellent dark beer with a strong coffee aroma followed by a coffee flavor & some roasted notes with hints of chocolate. It was really nice to sip slowly and set me back 950 yen for a 235ml snifter. It was great it was served in appropriate glassware. Very nice.

Bottle during RBWG 2013. Pours thick black with a tan foam head. Big, rich coffee aroma. Big sweet flavor, hefty mocha, good roast. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, good roast, earth, rich cocoa. Nice. Rich but with good balance.
3.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thedm (4773) - Fort Wayne, USA - FEB 22, 2013
s bottled brew from a rating party poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark black colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was mild vinous and dark malt. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish mild roasted malt aftertaste. The strong flavor contained notes of roasted malt toasted malt brown malt and dark malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

pours black with a minimal brown head.no lacing.aroma is typical of imperial stouts.chocolate, coffee and burnt malt, picking up some vanilla as well.slight aroma of bourbon and some charred oak.flavor is cocoa, coffee and vanilla with charred oak and bourbon.body is thin for a stout and has minimal carbonation.very bitter finish.surprised at the ratings for this.its ok but nothing spectacular about it.body is thin and the flavor is very unbalanced and for being a bourbon barrell aged beer the bourbon is extremely faint
