Appearance: The body is pitch black with a short and very dense brown head. The head is persistent and even once itís settled it is still a very dense coating.
Aroma: The aroma is dominated by freshly roasted coffee beans. There is a hint of oak and dark chocolate, but the majority is assertive coffee.
Taste: The flavor is bold and very coffee forward throughout from the intro through, coming off barely astringent, with a huge earthiness. Oak is noticed underlying the coffee, coming off very mild. The beer is basically strong coffee that progressively gains strength. Mildly dark cocoa powder is on the finish with very light barrel and bourbon lingering.
Palate: Full-bodied, but not chewy, mild carbonation.
Overall: I wouldnít know this was barrel aged if I didnít read it, itís very hard to tell but the oak shows through on the finish and a touch on the lingering. This is a great coffee stout though, I would like more complexity, maybe caramel or cocoa though.

Beautiful beer. Pours jet black with frothy dark mocha head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Hints of cocoa powder, vanilla, and caramel. Not too malty, not too sweet. Just about perfect.

Bottle @ home. Aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, some alcohol, vanilla, coffee and more. Flavour is deep roasty black coffee .alt roaat madness. Nice.

Bottle at home. Black pour, thin white head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, some caramel, a hint of licorice and tobacco with wet sigar. Flavor is quite bitter, roasted, burnt malts, coffee beans and with a huge body and very smooth solid texture. Very intense and heavy brew.

Coffee, chocolate, what's not to like? This is a very good stout. Aroma is of strong coffee, perhaps espresso. Reminds me if an iced coffee. Head is of medium thickness and dark tan. Lacing makes consistent rings all the way down my snifter glass. Would pair very nicely with chocolate cake, but was great with a pizza, too!

651 ml. bottle. Release # 14. Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled beige head, with some lacing, over a black brown (SRM 40+) body.....nose is chocolate, coffee, cocoa, fig, plum, umami.....taste is light lactose type sweetness, with plum, fig, light soy, beef, whiskey, light vanilla, burnt coffee, chocolate, finishing with a soft bitterness......mouth feel light of medium, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds tingle and light acid. The mouth feel is very light for the style and would really benefit from some non fermentables in the malt bill. The barrel was done with a light hand, and added complexity without dominating. The coffee and chocolate layers were a bit over the top and dominated all the others, creating a sweet mocha bomb rather than a beer of great subtlety. BJCP 8/3/14/3/7

Dark pour tall small bubbled brown head good lacing. Mmm smells strongly of coffee light chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Full well coated creamy palate. Sweet rich chocolates a good load of coffee a hint of butter and vanilla lactose a whiskeybfinish. Delicious!

Release 23. Pours to a deep brown body with a deep brown head. The aroma is mocha. Lots of deep chocolate and coffee. The palate is rich but easy drinking. Not lingering.

Release #23 vintage 2013. Pours black. Medium creamy brown head, fairly lasting with lace. Aroma is loaded with coffee, dense coffee with cream and sugar, milk chocolate, cocoa, sweet roasted malty, just an awesome coffee character. Flavor still has coffee but not as overt, nice sweet whisky, clean roast, chocolate. Medium to full body. Creamy. Pleasant alcohol warmth. Not quite as complex as I would hope for but stilt very very good. Whiskey barrel character shows up more and more with each sip, especially in the finish, overall stays in the background. I love coffee beers and this is a great one..
