Release #10. Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber. Pours inky black with just a small dark tan head that fades to a ring around the side of the glass. Pretty decent lacing considering the abv. Coffee is quite prominent in the aroma with hints of dark chocolate. Lots of roasted malt that seems slightly burnt. There is vanilla and just the slightest hint of whiskey buried way in the background. The coffee carries big time into the flavor mixed nicely with cocoa creating almost a mocha character. Lots and lots of heavily roasted malt that borders on being a bit acrid and charred. There is still just a little bourbon in the background that I wish was a little more prominent. Nice vanilla and caramel touches too. The alcohol is well hidden with just a slight warmth in the back of the throat with a creamy and just slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, a very tasty imperial stout but one that is not quite Earth-shattering. I don’t know if I would go out of my way to pick this up but if you do come across it, it is worth drinking.

Tried release #29 courtesy of Jay in 2014. Fantasticly coffee filled and chocolate. Deep, black, and rich.

Huge coffee aroma - a big enough dose that would drive any Baptist back to Church. Pours black with good initial head and lacing. Very bitter finish. Thick, creamy texture. A little too much of a coffee bomb for me though. Tap at Black Squirrel.

Pours a pitch black with nice creamy brown head. Smells of bitter coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, slight fruit and a little tobacco. Taste is not as complex with tobacco, chocolate, burnt malt. No booze surprisingly. Slick and oily mouthfeel. Overall nice beer. Just wish the smell lived up to the taste ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, Batch 13. 8/8/14. Pours black with a very carbonated, fast fading chocolate colored head. Aroma is chocolate, cacao nibs, a little smokey, earthy, herbal, licorice, syrup, sweet, hints of dark fruit, some booze, vanilla, wood; very rich. Taste is similar and similarly rich; dark chocolate, cacao nibs, earthy, herbal, toffee, wood; finish is dark chocolate, roast malt. Very rich, indulgent. Lacing is thin. Full-bodied, coating. Medium-low carbonation. Big beer, huge profile. Fantastic.

Batch #22. Poured into a snifter. Maybe an inch of head and very little lacing. Pours dark as midnight. Sour burnt aroma. Ewwwww. Mouthfeel is good. Lighter than expected but with a little too much carb. Taste is a lot of coffee. Semi-sweet as well. Roasty and dark fruit. Bourbon is there as well but it's just another layer of flavor instead of being overbearing. Good job on that. Slight vanilla extract too. Good beer. Well balanced with little to no alcohol flavor but lots of warmth. Glad to have tried it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Uber. July tick-a-thon continues. Gonna get to 1000 4oz at a time. And 4oz seems just about right for this one. Pours dark brown, opaque, with creamy khaki head. Aroma is cheap diner coffee with a generous squirt of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Taste is much the same. Quite sweet (at least compared to the quite dry George! that preceded it), with chocolate syrup and a bit of stale coffee in the finish. Palate: full body (but not as full as the last one), slick oily texture. Overall: damn, this is a chore even to finish 2 oz. Nothing appeals to me about this, actually -- so so sweet, with really gross stale cold diner coffee at the end. No, I’m going to take a stand -- fuck this, not worth the calories or the sick feeling in my stomach.
