Draft: Pours almost black with a small tan head. The aroma is dominated by cocoa and coffee. The taste takes the cocoa and adds the warmth of vanilla probably from the bourbon barrels. The finish is a bit astringent possibly due to the high alcohol content. The beer feels lighter tha I would expect and I would say the mouthfeel is medium. This is a good beer in a category with so many great beers, something I would have again but not search out.

Type: 8-oz. draft Glass: Clear tulip glass From: Alpine Beer Company Pub in Alpine, Calif. Price: $8.00 Purchased: June 18, 2016 Consumed: June 18, 2016 Misc.: Think it was the 52, 53 or 54 release as they were all 12.5 pct. ABV Had only heard great things about this monster. To see it on tap at my local brewery as one of the guest taps was an unexpected great pleasure. I believe there are a few bottles of this in town, but not sure I’ve seen it until this Saturday night in Alpine. Super excited for this one. Poured a black color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky tan head when I got it. No bubbles underneath that I could see. Excellent foamy lacing. Great retention. (Sight - 4.25) Smelled coffee, espresso, cocoa, chocolate milk, caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, smooth bourbon, dark chocolate, roasty malts and roasty nuts. (Smell - 4.25) Everything was just bigger in the taste. Espresso, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, perfectly smooth bourbon, roasty malts, toffee, caramel, leathery tobacco and hazelnut. (Taste - 4.50) Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, slightly warming finish. (Feel - 4.50) This was just awesome. Would love to have a bomber of this bad boy. A great bourbon barrel tasting. Very dark, nearly black in appearance with a great finish. The Baptist is a must try for anyone who likes great stouts and porters. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours pitch black with a small brown foam. Smells strongly of coffee and chocolate. Taste is dry chocolate and roasted coffee. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Epic Big Bad Baptist finishes with a lingering roasty dryness.

Notas intensas. Destaca el chocolate, café, vainilla e invariablemente el bourbon. De color negro profundo. Cuerpo redondo, densa.

On tap at public house, Las Vegas. Pours impenetrably dark with quickly dissipating head that leaves behind nice lacing. Nose is roasty malts and cacao. Flavor is same plus bourbon, but not too much. Really nice

Aroma is complex - plum, raisin, chocolate and a light touch of roasted coffee. The bourbon is apparent of course but not over whelming (as it is in too many BBA beers). Some vanilla and wood aromas also. Color is a very dark brown with a medium-sized light brown head. Taste includes a good degree of sweetness as you expect from a 12.3% ABV beer; it’s reasonably bitter, though with a generalized bitterness. Palate is very good: full bodied; richly sweet along with roasted and bitter flavors; nice oily, creamy texture, alcohol warmth. Finish is long with chocolate, roasted flavors, sweet dried fruits. Overall an excellent beer. Excellent complexity! Wonderful mouthfeel and texture. The bourbon barrel aging adds complexity without overwhelming the base stout. Highly recommended.

Big bad baptist, like most religion is strong with a bitter aftertaste. Works much better with beer. Thick pour with tan foamy head. Hellfire roasty and good mouth feel. Will invite this baptist to my barbecue

Tons of cocoa aroma with a bit of whisky/alcohol in the background. Pours thick black with a tan head. Bitter coffee flavor with an oaky/chocolaty finish. Good stuff!

Black pour with a thin off white head .... Aroma is awesome and of coffee, dusty chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, bourbon and light oak .... Taste is of coffee, dry oak, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, rich chocolate and dark cocoa .... The balance of the flavors is what I love about this brew ... Finishes dry and oaky with lingering coffee, roasted malts and cocoa with light bourbon and slight warming .... Sessionable for almost 12%

Pours jet black from the bottle, with a thin light brown head. This just looks like a big bad beauty. Aromas of dark chocolate, some smoke, slight metallic, bourbon. Palate opens big, with only a very small booze kick throughout. Big chocolate, cocoa; the wood opens up as it warms. Good, not great
