UPDATED: MAY 29, 2013 (Release # 10) Aromas of espresso, dark chocolate, chickory, and potting soil. Black with moderately lasting, tan head foam. Strong, dry, and roasty. Full bodied, sticky, carbonation is average, and finishes with strong, lingering roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors, and with some spicy, herbaceous flavors afterward.

Bible Belt and now Big Bad Baptist? It’s official. If an Imperial Stout has a name with a B-letter alliteration related to something scary and religious, it’s going to be awesome. Apparently. Because Big Bad Baptist is awesome. It’s equal parts roasted coffee and sweet chocolate. It’s black as my heathen soul and velvety smooth. Big Bad Baptist is full-bodied and has plenty of booze, but it disappears all too quickly. In that way, it’s probably the exact opposite of an actual Big Bad Baptist...

A- Coffee, mocha, cocoa, malty, roasty.
A- Black color, black liquid, brown head.
T- Coffee, cocoa, chocolate, roasty, slightly bitter.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish.
O- I expected pretty good things here but this was fantastic. So very smooth and balanced and full of coffee and robust flavors and aromas. I don’t know that there was much wrong with it, if anything at all.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at The Lackman, arrived in a snifter.
Appearance: Your usual imperial stout impenetrable black, capped with a dark brown head that dwindled somewhat quickly to a cap and ring. Lacing was patchy but persistent.
Smell: Chocolate, and quite a bit of it, riding atop a wave of coffee and caramel. Some hints of spice as well.
Taste: This has some over the top intensity of flavor. The aforementioned chocolate is present in spades, alongside French roast coffee, burnt caramel, white and black pepper, ginger, cinnamon, and a slurry of dark fruits. Some wooden, vanilla, and almost chile-like undertones waft along through the background as well. The finish is sour dark fruit, bread, coffee, and oak.
Mouthfeel: Thick, full, sticky, and rich, this is definitely an imperial stout.
Overall: I’d have this again were I to come across it. I’d have just one, but I’d still have it again.

I’m having this beer after a long day at work and damn is it fine. Pours dark as dick with minimal head. The coffee, cocoa and barrel aged flavors were so beautifully paired I had to punch the wall just to bring some disorder into my life.

This poured a dark brown to black with a tan head. Aroma was of lots of.coffee, chocolate, light green pepper and light barrel. Flavor similar, a little thing, but hides the booze very well, very drinkable. Great stuff.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown black pour with a medium brown head that quickly dissipated. Aroma of light whiskey, coffee, roasty malts. Taste is sweet with a slight acrid coffee bitterness in the finish. Slightly fudgey in the finish too. Very drinkable. Medium light body. Smooth. Lower carb. Digging it.

Black pour with brownish ring of head, fluffy. 22oz bottle poured at home from Blackwells. Nuts, coffee, roasty and milky aroma. Taste big. Cocoa, rich chocoate, rich coffee, and a hint of the whiskey barrels. Hides the big ABV - more like drinking a tasty coffee/cocoa smoothy than a heavy beer. Fantastic..

Just fyi, Mine says "release #40, 11.5%alc vol..., DEH# 1917". Bottle from Choice Beverages. Pours black with a thin khaki head. The aromas are cocoa, chocolate, cold coffee and whiskey. The mouthfeel is dry, roasty and bitter with a heavy body and good carbonation. Phenomenal brew. Cheers!
