Aroma - Strong coffee aroma! Aroma of wet oak, or wood grilling planks. Probably due to the whiskey barrel aging. You. Can smell this aroma from a close distance. Slight sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma. Hint of malt and booze. Taste - Taste of roasted coffee and chocolate as well as oak. Taste of sweet malt and booze. Overall- Great! Beer. I haver never had a stout like this.

Pours a jet black with a thick tan foam head. Aroma is strong wood and bourbon, with hints of vanilla and chocolate. The flavor is surprisingly different, with a heavy, thick chocolate taste and lighter bourbon. This is almost like eating chocolate cake, it’s so sweet and has such a huge mouthfeel. An incredibly delicious beer, which would get a 5 from me but I’m not a huge fan of a large wood presence in my beer.

Black with a light brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, dark fruits. Full bodied, roasty and lightly sweet on the palate. Taste is coffee, chocolate, dates.

One of my all time favorites, the release I drank this time was ibis slc # 2072 super strong coffee flavors, which is great but kind of covers the whiskey flavors up. Great breakfast or dessert beer.

Strong aroma of coffee, with notes of chocolate and bourbon. Black with minimal brown head. Warm on the palate with light sweetness, medium bitterness, tastes of strong coffee, slight chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and slight bourbon. Full body with average carbonation. The bourbon takes a back seat to the coffee aroma and taste. Overall an above average beer.

Release #30 13.5 abv Whoa, aroma. So many different notes I don’t even know where to begin! Notes of rich chocolate, banana, oak, bourbon, caramel, coffee and roast all are pronounced. On the palate, and as it warm, lots of coffee comes out of this beer. I keep getting hints of cherry too. This is by far one of the best Imperial Stouts I have ever had. Even the cap smells good.

#8 Tasted at Jerry’s 09/14. Black with scant, brown head, minimal lacing / Milder nose of cigar box, coffee, bourbon barrel / Medium to full body, surprisingly lively, moderately sweet but dry on the finish with excellent balance and bitterness underneath / Complex, elegant, dusty flavors of roast coffee, tobacco, chocolate, caramel, restrained bourbon barrel / Superb, and doing nicely.

Bottle (22oz $12): black with nice one finger head. Strong coffee smell.. Taste is strong coffee and slight chocolate and slight bourbon. I am not a coffee fan so this was not a brew I will get again. The coffee taste mostly hides the bourbon.

Up there with the finest! Coffee, chocolate dominate. Dark and rich. Tasted next to expedition and other imp stouts. A real standout. Probably the best coffee stout on market!

Black pour with a brown head. Really strong coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Taste is coffee, dark chocolate, and faint whiskey. Full slick body with a slight alcohol warmth. Other than that the ABV is completely hidden. Very good, but would be phenomenal if I got more barrel from it.

Poured from bottle into snifter glass. Wonderful aroma filled with sweet dark chocolate and coffee with a moderate whiskey background. Flavor follows suit. Rich chocolate flavor, strong coffee, and pronounced whiskey barrel. This is not a subtle beer but it is well balanced. Good mouthfeel with moderate carb, almost thick body and light oily texture. A winner.
