I was blown away by this beer! A big sniff of this beer filled my nose with a large dose of oak followed by slight coffee and chocolate notes. It looked dark like an imperial stout should. It tasted slightly sweet with strong coffee notes. I had it in Denver which might be the reason the coffee stood out. It also tasted like chocolate, and dark malt. The finish was a slightly whiskey flavored. Overall, a great beer.

full review: http://t.co/DXsrUBLwT0 From start to finish this beer is purely enjoyable. The aroma swirls between chocolate and coffee as it enters the nose. On the taste, I get chocolate as it transforms into coffee, and finishes with the hints of bourbon and barrel. This is fully bodied and coats the back of the throat. An enjoyable after taste.

THOUGHTS: Wow. Just an incredible beer. Nearly perfect. Definitely one of the best aromas from a beer I’ve ever smelled. Hid alcohol incredibly well until the finish It had a lot of things going on, but the coffee was the real star. All I can say is that is smelled and tasted like freshly crushed coffee beans. I could have sniffed this all day long. It also went great with a Dutch chocolate muffin. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with an small, tan head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma had tons of coffee. There was heavy strong coffee; less dark chocolate; a little burnt malt; hints of whiskey that increased as it warmed; vanilla; cigar tobacco; freshly crushed coffee beans; coffee with cream and sugar; and light alcohol. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly bitter, slightly acidic and ever so slightly sour. It was like chewing on coffee beans. There was very strong-brewed coffee, crushed coffee beans, Hershey’s Special Dark, chocolate syrup, hints of vanilla, coffee with cream and sugar, a little whiskey that grew as it warmed, a little burnt malt, a little sour coffee and dark fruit, and dark chocolate cherry cordials. There was something a little funny in the finish and it did become slightly cloying by the end. The medium to full body was rather oily with soft, but tingly carbonation and a moderately alcoholic and lightly astringent finish.

Great Beer!!! Was not expecting how smooth, but thick the beer would roll across my palate. Nice tight beeds of carbonation. This is a party of melo- exploding flavor in your mouth. If you like RIS’s then get some. Amazing

Release #9... I have had this beer both on tap and from the bottle and have to say it’s incredible. Initial aroma is that of chocolate but once you take it in a bit more it becomes more and more coffee like. I have a few aging and will respond 10 months when I think it’s ready.

Aroma - Strong coffee aroma! Aroma of wet oak, or wood grilling planks. Probably due to the whiskey barrel aging. You. Can smell this aroma from a close distance. Slight sweet vanilla and chocolate aroma. Hint of malt and booze. Taste - Taste of roasted coffee and chocolate as well as oak. Taste of sweet malt and booze. Overall- Great! Beer. I haver never had a stout like this.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2014 Release #8. I’ve had many coffee stouts and many bourbon stouts but never have i had a whiskey barrel coffee stout. Smells amazing! Coffee and a hint of whiskey. This is almost a perfect stout for my flavor profile. Heavy on the coffee with a little hint of chocolate from the cocoa nibs and a nice smooth whiskey flavor on the back end. I could drink this whole bottle in 10 minutes it is so smooth and I’m shocked it is 12.5% ABV. Get this if you see it, you won’t regret it!

Deuce to pint, release #10. Cracked this bad boy open to enjoy during the NCAA championship. Appearance is jet black and rather thick, slight tan head. Aroma is quite pleasant, roasted coffee. Taste is coffee to the max, bitter and dark, with some dark chocolate and a slight whiskey kick. Hard to find any flaws in this one...maybe a little biased as a coffee buff, but this beer was amazing.
