This is the best beer that I have had from Epic. Tons of flavor.

22oz bottle. Pours dark mahogany out of the bottle but settles in close to black in the glass with a modest but thick tan head. Man does this smell good, at least for a coffee lover like me. It’s full of freshly roasted coffee beans. Some bitter chocolate and heavily roasted malts underneath, but the coffee is dominant in the nose. Taste is like a big iced mocha. The chocolate is subtle in the nose but not in the taste where the chocolate is right up there with the roasted coffee. Roasted malts and some lactose creaminess. Wonderful taste. The mouthfeel is much thicker and creamier than I was expecting from the pour. It’s right up there with the big boys in terms of feel. I’m reviewing this beer as a coffee lover and, because of that, it’s an outstanding beer. One of the better coffee impy stouts I’ve had. Even if you’re not a coffee fan, you should try this, but if you like coffee stouts, get this. Now.

Release #9. A vigorous pour produces a good tan head on top of a dark body. There’s lots of chocolate and coffee aromas, with some oats, licorice, ash, and molasses. The whiskey is there too but mild. Going down this is rather smooth for such a big beer. The body is creamy and slick with a slightly dry finish. Rich and chocolaty flavors mix with some barrel notes, coffee, and caramel. Again, the whiskey is there but not very noticeable. This finishes with a bit of roasty ashy notes. This is actually one of the better Imperial Stouts I’ve had in a while. I like how everything melds together without one dominating flavor but plenty of depth.

Bottle. Black pour with small but creamy head, Aroma of coffee grabs you immediately. Taste is coffee, chocolate and sweet brown bread. One of the best coffee stouts I’ve had.

Pours unclear dark unclear dark brown/black coffee in color with a light beige head. The aroma is the shining star, absolutely outstanding. Just like Breaky Stout, it has the dark cocoa brownie notes blended well with the coffee so fresh in the nose. The flavor brings sweet, light roasted malts and sweet coffee notes with a bit of cacao and bitterness on the end.

Poured from $$$ 22oz bottle - Where to start? This is the type of stout that was custom made for some, like me, that already likes imperial stouts & coffee! I could see someone who is not a fan of either dismiss this one. The Baptist hits with so much roast and coffee I think I’m at Starbucks--I love it. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel, deep roast, and serious coffee. I’m getting of this damn site and enjoying the rest of my bottle!

The beer pours black in color with a finger of tan head. There is a huge coffee aroma to this. Quite a bit of oak with just a mild vanilla note. Some nice bourbon to go with roasted malt and brown sugar. The flavor has a touch of licorice and molasses to go with vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate. Really solid mouthfeel as well.

Batch 2: 11.7% abv. A: Pours pitch black with a 1/2 finger tan head. S: BIG coffee with a bit of whiskey and cocoa in the background. Roasted malts are very faint. T: Wow, tastes like sweet turkish coffee with the cocoa sweetening the intense coffee flavors. Irish whiskey (yet possibly bourbon - can’t tell because of the potent coffee beans) coats the background, with traditional stout flavors filling in at the very end. M: Smooth as can be for a barrel aged coffee stout; full bodied and well carbonated. O: Heavy on the coffee, could be more balanced for how it is advertised.

Poured from a bottle into a brandy snifter. Appearance is a dark, dense black with a thick khaki colored head of foam. The aroma is very dense coffee. That’s really about all there is to the aroma. The taste is intense, dark roasted coffee with perhaps a touch of chocolate sweetness going on. The bourbon barrel was very muted in this beer, pretty much exactly how I like it. It played more of a secondary or tertiary role in the beer, and I can’t think of a better place for it. Very tasty.

Aroma: lots of fresh coffee, roast malts, chocolate, slightly ashy, nice touch of bourbon. Pours black, mostly opaque, nice brown head with great retention, leaves some lacing. Flavor follows the nose - chocolate and espresso, hints of vanilla and oak, dark roast malts, caramel, robust bitterness to balance the malts, pleasant bourbon notes, alcohol is pretty well hidden. Full body, medium carbonation. Really enjoyed this brew.
