Bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Pours nearly black with a thin mocha head that doesn’t stick around long. Surprisingly thin. Nose is roasted salty nuts, cocoa, and sweet coffee. Vanilla and oak take more of a backseat. Taste adds sweetness and then bitter coffee grounds, but not in a bad way. Odd aftertaste I can’t quite place. Interesting.

Draft at Uber. July tick-a-thon continues. Gonna get to 1000 4oz at a time. And 4oz seems just about right for this one. Pours dark brown, opaque, with creamy khaki head. Aroma is cheap diner coffee with a generous squirt of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Taste is much the same. Quite sweet (at least compared to the quite dry George! that preceded it), with chocolate syrup and a bit of stale coffee in the finish. Palate: full body (but not as full as the last one), slick oily texture. Overall: damn, this is a chore even to finish 2 oz. Nothing appeals to me about this, actually -- so so sweet, with really gross stale cold diner coffee at the end. No, I’m going to take a stand -- fuck this, not worth the calories or the sick feeling in my stomach.

Release 22. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee with some bourbon. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Not much bourbon flavor but very smooth, alcohol is well hidden. Nice

Pours black with a tan foamy head. Fades quickly. Aroma is strong coffee with a faint scent aged wood and some bourbon. Taste is coffee hint of vanilla with a bourbon in the back. Palate is creamy and slick with a pleasant dry finish. Looking for more bourbon notes.

Bottle share at DLD 2014. Batch #14. Pour is murky brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor of coffee, booze, more coffee, and more booze. Finish is roast, bourbon, chocolate, and dark fruit.

Pours a thick, murky black with a tan/brown head. Nose has some great cocoa and roasted coffee bean notes with a bourbon presence as well. I really love the nose on this one. Starts with some nice cocoa notes. It’s a bit bitter on the tongue with some toasty coffee notes. Some bourbon notes present in the mouth as well. Finishes with some smooth coffee notes and a bit of booziness. Drinks incredibly smooth given the high alc content. This is far and away on of the best stouts I’ve had. There’s a lot of complex flavors present, all working in sync to bring you a great beer.

MadRobin (1855) - Silver Spring, USA - JUN 12, 2014
Poured from 22 oz. bottle after cellaring for 20 months. Opaque, black-brown with a 2-finger dark tan head and excellent lacing. Aroma of intense darkly roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and sweet dark fruit. Taste of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark roasted coffee and charred roasted malt. Very full body and medium/low carbonization with a thick, but slightly slimy, mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
