COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
All of us here at Epic are happy to introduce the newest exponential libation—Blue Law Porter. This is a medium-bodied porter to which we added blackberry puree at the end of primary fermentation and finished it with spruce tip extract harvested from Blue Spruce trees found on the grounds of Utah’s State Capitol building. It has a roasting profile with a fruity tartness and an aftertaste of resinous spruce.

Dark brown pour, light brown head. Roasted malts, resinous flavors, some interesting dark fruity notes, a hint of cocoa and maybe a tart note. A bit of coffee as well.

Bottle, release #2. Aroma: coffee, roast malts, some biscuit, berry notes, a touch of pine, bit of chocolate. Appearance: pours black, fairly dark but not opaque, nice khaki head with good retention and lots of lacing. Flavor: coffee, roast, and chocolate hit first, followed by berry and hints of pine. Toasty malt notes, a bit of sweetness, bitterness is low but sufficient to provide some balance. Interesting blend of flavors. Palate: medium body and carbonation, smooth. Overall: decent porter.

22oz bottle, release #2, 7% ABV. Clear dark brown color, with a hint of red. Thin light brown head. Good spreads of lace. Some spruce tip in the nose, hint of the berry. Medium body, lighter than you’d expect for a 7% porter. Maybe a bit on the thin side. Smoother, light carbonation. Not much to the texture, though it does make for easy drinking. Just a little bit of dark chocolate. Big blackberry flavor - though not cloying sweet nor articifical-tasting. More of a lightly tart taste, with a more bitter finish. Pretty authentic feel to it, and this avoids having a syrupy texture that fake blueberry beers can have. More of a clean more dry finish. The dark berry is pretty big here though, almost more of a fruit beer than a porter. Light piney hop and spruce tip work together. A bit sweet and fruity though, could use more portery goodness. A bit thin too, but otherwise a enjoyable, creative fruit beer / porter hybrid.

Bod mahogany with a nice tan head. The blueberry addition adds subtle complexity but nothing remarkable. Some dark fruit. Tartness. Minimal sweetness.

At Big Beers, Belgians, & Barleywines Fest 2013. Clear dark brownish amber with a nose like burnt toast, funky cheese (in a good way), and roasted dark malt. Flavor is smooth and dark with a certain funkiness like fish or cheese (I didn’t know what ingredients were in this beer when I wrote these notes...reading the description this makes more sense now...), burnt toffee, and earthy toast. Not really diggin it.

Pours a brown to cola red color. Minimal head. Aroma is your typical porter. The taste hits first as spruce followed by the porter medium roast notes with the blackberry appearing in the background as a minor note. Very good to me has a nice minor fizz on the palate too.

Pours a dark clear brown with ring of offwhite head. Nose is weird sweetness and a tootsie roll character. Flavor is also unusual, but kinda enjoyable. The blackberry juice is evident, as well as the sprucy finish, but I can’t say that I really care for it all that much. Roasty with cocoa. Its definitely different from your everyday porter. kudos for trying something new though.

Welcome beer, I acquired from a recent US trip. Sour at the beginning, this porter yields tasty tart fruit. Black with a big head. Some spruce taste. Decent drinkability.
