3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep red brown with a thick khaki head. Aroma is malty, pine, with very mellow sugar and berry in the background. Taste is sweet, sour, bitter, all in quick succession. It has a soapy water consistency. The spruce seemed much more dominant than the blackberries, it would be interesting to try a version of this less the spruce.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber from Hayduke and shared with him via facebook chat. Release #1 and 5.9 ABV. A lot of red is with the dark brown during the pour. A one finger tan head. This smells like a berry cobbler with big malts. That berry fruit is tasted throughout and the roasted malts and chocolate malts work nicely. The spruce is tasted and adds a spiciness. Ron spotted this. Citrusy hops. The finish was a little thin and the fruit came out even more and then the last sip brought more chocolate.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle ( release #2 7.0 abv.) Pours brown with a reddish tint and little soapy off white head. Aroma has roasted malt and earthy scents along with some subtle berry notes. Taste is more roasted malt and bitterness with the blueberries showing more in the taste. Palate is thin with a chalky dry finish. Decent, but nothing I would go out and get again.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bomber pours mahogany with a loose tan head of foam. The aroma is a little blueberry esters, a little dusty nuttiness, a mineral note and just a dash of roasted malts. The taste is similar where I get a sliver of sweet dark fruity esters mixing with a mildly tart note, some nuttiness and then roasted malts. Into the finish some highly roasted malts join in too. There seems to be an off flavor too that’s sort of tartness or maybe a light astringency that is a tad off putting. OK, the label states Spruce Tips, maybe that’s what’s going on.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, release #2. Aroma: coffee, roast malts, some biscuit, berry notes, a touch of pine, bit of chocolate.
Appearance: pours black, fairly dark but not opaque, nice khaki head with good retention and lots of lacing.
Flavor: coffee, roast, and chocolate hit first, followed by berry and hints of pine. Toasty malt notes, a bit of sweetness, bitterness is low but sufficient to provide some balance. Interesting blend of flavors.
Palate: medium body and carbonation, smooth.
Overall: decent porter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle, release #2, 7% ABV. Clear dark brown color, with a hint of red. Thin light brown head. Good spreads of lace. Some spruce tip in the nose, hint of the berry. Medium body, lighter than you’d expect for a 7% porter. Maybe a bit on the thin side. Smoother, light carbonation. Not much to the texture, though it does make for easy drinking. Just a little bit of dark chocolate. Big blackberry flavor - though not cloying sweet nor articifical-tasting. More of a lightly tart taste, with a more bitter finish. Pretty authentic feel to it, and this avoids having a syrupy texture that fake blueberry beers can have. More of a clean more dry finish. The dark berry is pretty big here though, almost more of a fruit beer than a porter. Light piney hop and spruce tip work together. A bit sweet and fruity though, could use more portery goodness. A bit thin too, but otherwise a enjoyable, creative fruit beer / porter hybrid.
