Brainless Belgian-Style Golden Ale is has a rich and complex malt flavor balanced with a little bit of spicy noble hops and strong influences of fermentation esters from the Belgian yeast used. Various Belgian like Rock Candies, hops and grains are employed to express variations within the style. Deceivingly drinkable, some liken theses ales to the Devil sneaking up on you, so consume responsibly.

Thanks Carl! Clear golden pour with a great white head. Epic lacing. Doughy spice and citrusy herbals. Medium body with fluffy carbonation.

Poured into a snifter. Release #17, 8.5% ABV. 4.0 A: Opaque bright yellow orange color. Just under two fingers of frothy white head. Retention is average and a decent sized ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Bright peach and apple fruitiness with perhaps a touch of banana esters thrown in. Hay, wet grass, and apple orchard funkiness. Earthy and mildly spicy hops. Yeast gives a mild breadiness as well as notes of pepper and clove. 4.0 T: Really tasty. The peach, apple, banana meshes well with the earthy undertones - hay and apple orchard. Pleasantly spicy with pepper and clove featured. Earthy and spicy hops. Pretty much the same as the nose. 4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Spritzy and lightly creamy. Good here. 4.0 D: Epic impresses again. I had the Brainless and Cherries and thought it sucked, but it seems like every new batch, they get their act together a little more. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-09-2012 22:29:12

Release #19. Big bright white frothy head of fine bubbles that reduces rather quickly. Light citrus and grainy aromas with some pears and spices. Color is a slightly hazy golden orange. Very, very soft malts in the flavor along with some peaches, cereal grains and some light grassy hops. Velvety smooth in the mouth. A wonderful palate. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. Lingering pears and spices finish off the brew. A very good belgian.

Bottle: The aroma consists of banana, apple, sweet citrus, and light pepper. It pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with lots of fine sediment. It has a two finger white head with decent retention and leaves behind some thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with banana and some candy sugar. It finishes with some sweet citrus notes, faint orange peel, and pepper. Itís medium bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, much better than the cherry and peach versions.

Sample at the House Wine EPIC beer tasting on 04/18/2012: Pours a cloudy orange-yellow color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma contains fruits and spices as well as a bit of yeast. Medium body with flavors of sweet fruit, mildly spiced hops, malt and yeast. The finish is fruity with a lightly hopped aftertaste. Decent overall.

Batch #11. First half of the bottle poured surprisingly clear, light bubbly head. Nothing other than typical belgian aroma and taste here. Bananas, raisins, sugar. Second pour had a lot more sediment so was a lot more cloudy which lent to a much creamier mouthfeel.

Bottle, batch #23 (a good batch number for American made BGSAs). Pours with a hazed golden hued body with a large and lasting white head that stays. Tight bubbles, good lace. Aromas of isoamyl acetate (banana esters), mildly musty, black pepper, apple, clove, alcohol, phenols (complex and strong). Bready and biscuity malt, macaroons, elderflower, light hops (floral and spicy), good smelling Belgian Golden Strong. Smells like fresh Duvel; pretty textbook. Flavors are a touch sweet (possibly a bit too much at the start). Bready, biscuity, mild esters, herbal hops up front, yeast notes that are mostly phenolic (peppery) and a bit musty. Tastes like a Duvel clone to me. Clove, dry pear and orange peel. Medium-lively bubbles, dry, mildly fruity, lower body. Pretty much spot on for the BJCP version of the style; tastes like Duvel.

Pours a clear orange/yellow. Thin white head. Apple and vanilla aroma. I canít quite see how this became the base of so many variations on a theme. Vanilla in the flavor with some yeasty hefeweizen notes as well. Quite good.

Last bottle at Dayton Ale Feat but I have no idea what release. My 1B favorite of the night. Classic and true-to-form Belgian strong ale. Nice sweet malt notes balanced with some yeast and spice. Pleasant.
